Free Music Friday: Ghost Wave, Goons of Doom

It's a long weekend coming up, so that means BBQ's, pool parties, and generally laying around enjoying the dwindling days of summer. And with that in mind, here are a couple free tunes to help you get the most out of the extra day off...

Ghost Wave - "Here She Comes"

Mmmm I'm really a simple girl. Just give me a bit of early 1960's inspired rock n' roll and I'm happy. Ghost Wave's "Here She Comes" delivers just this and I'm now a fan. There's a hint of first wave psychedelia in there; a flavor of The Velvet Underground and Brian Jones Massacre - yum! I'm looking forward to hearing more from this New Zealand trio. Goons of Doom

Just across the Tasman Sea we now find our next band offering a free download. Volcom brings us the Goons of Doom, who nostalgically sound like they came right outta the LA/OC 80's surf punk scene. This full 24 track album is composed of rare demos and outtakes of both new and old Goons songs. I love the low-fi quality to the recording as it resonates with my teenage, punk-rock heart. Definitely an ideal So Cal pool party album released in perfect timing for the holiday weekend.
