More reviews when I should be sleeping comin at cha. Maggots 2019 You like your movies goopy then you got it. From Niel Meschino the guy who brought us Mold (which I really like) and the sort of sequel Mildew that he did with the intense Guilio De Santo of Necrostorm. Oddly only two years earliar was another Maggots movie but those maggots were from space. In this Maggots we get the familiar concept of a group of students in the woods on a research project. Only one student cares about the project (the token nerd guy) and the rest on in it for the cheap credit (we have heard this plot before). When they get to the woods they discover toxic chemicals have mutanted fly larva making them into giant hidious flesh eating beats. My only real issue is the humor. I love dumb humor but I feel this movie deserves better. It is one of the horror comedies that is made by bros but wants to think its made by nerds so in the plot you should feel for the nerd and consider the bros to be jerks. However the bros are so way over the top they are just annoying and the nerd is so unlike anything relationable at all. In the crew of classically too old to be student characters you have Nerd (who should have just been everyday guy and scrapped the nerd tropes) Mega bro who things he is funny and sub level normal bro… I was content enough with secondary sub normal bro. However if you wait till the very end of the movie you will be impressed by what happened to mega bro. There is tough independent metal girl and token slutty girl as well. Let me be a pig for a momment and say daaaamn I hope token slutty girl does more movies.. just sayin. Anyways, where was I. There ae two forret rangers that pop into the story as well mainly to add into the drug jokes that drag out this film. BUT all that grumbling aside when the creatures show up and the massacres start a happening you will forget any gripe with this movie just as I did. The maggots look like the awesome love child of the Deadly Spawn and a killer condom. Gross, funny and deadly. The worse thing is they can eventually evolve into giant goopy monster flies. Brilliant. The monsters are as hungry and deadly as hairless Crites from Critters. Slime everywhere (which is the directors thing) , lots of blood, creative and humorous kills. So if you can handle a few dumb cliches (which honestly Im pretty ok with myself) you will stick around for the gross out goopy , blood soaked teeth filled monster mash and slash. With all the blood and slime this is a very moist movie. You like that word? Mmmmoiiisst.
