Last Line Tag

Thanks for the tag, @24zallurabbits! So, even though I’m ‘editing’ Scalped right now, what that means is I’m adding a bunch of the scenes because of a recent scene rearrangement I did. The excerpt below is from one of those scenes.

Private Marks was one of about five members of the cavalry troop from the Frontier, and, given her mixed heritage, was one of those easier to identify. She had the straight black hair and the medium brown skin that served as the easiest way to identify those Indigenous to the continent. Reese, accustomed to the eastern tribes, could see features in her face that distinguished her from them, sharper cheekbones, a broader jaw.

Reese did not have an opportunity to respond. Cook walked back to his wagon and clambered aboard. He called something to Private Marks in a language they shared, and she laughed.

‘Corporal Tykas.” Marks touched her cavalry cap and turned her horse aside to flank the supply wagon.
