We heard a small commotion at the front door today and looked up to find a little friend scaling the blinds in the window.
This isn't an escaped pet, but a wild gopher snake who slipped through the gap under the screen door and proceeded to explore my house!
They were a bit hissy and fussy, so I didn't get many decent photos, but they were politely relocated to the yard where they came from.

Today we say goodbye to a friend here at the OMG, Snakes! house. River, the wild-caught Pacific gopher snake, was released back to her natural habitat. She’s big enough now that not too many other critters will mess with her, and while her original hatch site is currently under development (boooo) we have a natural area that is a currently protected wild space with no plans for development and within a mile of her birthplace (yaaaayyyy). She made sure that I’ll remember her by putting on a very huffy display, musking all over my hands, and then refusing to leave her snake bag. Happy ever after, River.
River is relying on her excellent gopher snake camouflage to melt into the surrounding vegetation and become virtually invisible. Nobody tell her.
