Everything he ever did was weak to all they ever were.

I've been thinking about this scene between Enver and Velkyn since I wrote this post, and I'm about to get really, really emo about friendship under the cut.
But, before I do: @infernaldaydreams made this for my birthday, and it made me cry multiple times over. She captured Velkyn perfectly, and I've never loved my durge more than I do now. 🖤I could not express my gratitude, nor how soft this makes me in general.
But by god, I'm gonna try.
Lots of people who've had mutuals for a long time before trying to become friends probably have a similar story as mine. I'm not gonna claim that I'm some special, supernatural being or anything—only that human friendship in general is unfathomably beautiful just on its own.
Anyway, while we've been friends for a fair bit over a year by this point, one of my favourite parts of our friendship comes before that: when we were durgetash moots. So much of my theorycrafting was inspired by her art—and, later, I'd find out that so much of her art was inspired by my theorycrafting.
This gorgeous piece feels like a callback to that: friends from across a vast distance, ships in the night that'd eventually come back around and properly meet in a different fandom.
And I know I've already said it a billion times in dm's and over voice, but just... I am so, so glad to have had a friend from across the way that, one day, would turn out to want to make stories with me. When I think about being your friend, I think all the way back to 2023, nodding at each other while being too shy to say a singular goddamned word.
Now look at us: spinning new words, new tales, every damn day. Now, one of those is Velkyn's: the first story you ever helped inspire, given a fresh coat of paint in the cave where we do all our headcanoning and scheming.
Anyway, I had 3 hours of sleep last night and I'm exhausted down to my bones, but... @infernaldaydreams, I like you or something. 🖤Thanks for letting me yap at you on tumblr dot com in June 2024, and everything that came after that, too. 🖤
Wip but I'm chewing through the bars of my enclosure thinking about how these two were Chosen...loyal to a god which only cared for them conditionally and not if they were imperfect...finding someone who might care for them in a mortal, imperfect way but in a way that isn't conditional to perfection...and how that might lead even a Chosen to question their loyalty and faith... Foaming at the mouth tbh....
You know, it's kind of baffling to me when people insist that THEIR Durge would never have so much as liked Gortash, romantically or otherwise.
Even without the new lines, The Prayer for Forgiveness has always been there, proving that, at the very least, The Dark Urge admired Gortash so much that it caused a crisis of faith.
A crisis of faith in Bhaal's own child literally carved from his gore, made specifically to be Bhaal's perfect child.
This has all been said before, but The Dark Urge is an ORIGIN character (and being able to change their appearance makes SENSE, when you consider the propensity of shapeshifters in Bhaalist lore. Literally the form you choose for Durge is just the form Bhaal chose).
Claiming "My Durge would have never liked Gortash" is like saying "My Gale never liked Mystra," or "My Wyll would have never signed a contract with Mizora," or even "My Karlach would have never worked for Gortash."
Maybe your TAV wouldn't have ever done those things, but Origin characters have solidified backstories. Even if your Durge is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT person post-tadpole, the facts of who they were BEFORE the events of the game are as in-game factual as Gale's past relationship with Mystra, Wyll's contract with Mizora, or Lae'zel's upbringing with the Gith.
If you want to headcanon something else for your playthrough, cool, but insisting that events that are CANON cannot be interpreted in a way that you don't enjoy doesn't make sense.
