I saw earlier that you weren't feeling well today, so I give you: The Burial Mounds! I've wanted to draw it for a while, but I got new paint markers today! I hope you like it! (the red details on its fur are for wwx, the blue ones for lwj, and the purpley ones for A-Yuan!)

I'M KILLING MYSELF I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. THANK YOU SO MUCH, LYN, I REALLY NEEDED THIS :((( I love this iteration of The Burial Mounds so much, It looks so cute and fluffy - and I think that really works for It as a culmination as resentful energy and spirits, like a ball of fluffiness that's also spikey!! Kind of like those uh fibreglass batts used for insulation in houses - yeah, you can touch it, but there are tiny bits of glass in it that will leave you with irritated skin, eyes and lungs. Of course, the glass would be resentful energy, and I do think It would be able to reign it in, depending on what It's interacting with. No lingering resentful energy for Its family! Plus, this creates such a funny way of getting the Yin Tiger Tally out of It - in the other iteration of The Burial Mounds, I can't say it would be a pleasant experience of pulling it out of Its chest, but with THIS iteration, it would be just rifling around in a ball of fluff to get it out. ADORABLE. I also adore teeny mode, imagine having a little creature you could just carry around that can also become huge and start ripping people apart at any instance of your disgruntlement.

The happy parent's day card from Wei Ying is everything to me you DON'T UNDERSTAND!! In the mad scientist AU, Wei Ying doesn't get a parental figure at all. Wen Ruohan was, at first, a kind guy who had taken him in, a mentor if you will, before all of the trauma n shit. Wen Qing is a jiejie, Wen Ning and Xue Yang are didis, and he has never had a parent's guiding hand to help him through life. Then The Burial Mounds comes CRASHING IN, and while It doesn't know much about human beings, there are many resentful spirits making It up that do have parental instincts. These all coalesce into a sort of reverse imprinting where The Burial Mounds looks at this fucked up kid and goes "yeah uh that's my kid. Yeah. Yeah that one's mine." Also Lan Xichen and The Burial Mounds bond over wangxian and if it were a modern AU, Lan Xichen would have totally been the one to make that shirt for It. It's just the only reasonable thing. "Person pieces" is the only label I will accept for dismembered bodies now, thank you for that.

Genuinely though, I love this so so much, thank you so much for doing this and showing me it. You turned The Burial Mounds into a marketable plushie and I LOVE IT. I woke up this morning to THIS and I think it's honestly the best way to wake up - you're such a sweetheart for this, and I'm giving you all the love you deserve for it. Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!! I love you ssoooo muuuccchhh. Thank. YOU. Sniffle sniffle I'm going to cry and throw up and pass away I think.

the sea’s blood price pt. 1

Because sometimes you want to write a Mermaid AU and don’t want to post it on AO3 until you have more developed for it.

The water was shockingly cold when he hit it. All things considered; cold water shouldn’t have been that surprising. As it was, it knocked the breath out of him.

Which of course meant he swallowed a mouthful of salt water.

He broke the surface gasping and sputtering, kicking hard to keep his head above the waves. The storm roared overhead, lightning spitting apart the dark sky. Just barely he could make out the crew yelling, crying out “man overboard!” They would never get a raft out to him in time with the storm as strong as it was.

It was whipping its way into a real squall.

Jiang Cheng knew without a doubt that he was going to drown out here.

He sucked in a deep breath as the next wave crashed over his head. He was spinning, losing track of where the surface was, and his lungs were screaming. Still he swam. He broke the surface to see the ship being tossed side to side, tipping dangerously. Panic gripped his lungs and squeezed tight.

Thunder crashed.

The ship overturned.

The next wave sent him under, and he swallowed water. He couldn’t breathe, couldn’t move, couldn’t swim.

A flash of quicksilver out of the corner of his eye.

Something grabbed him by the back of his shirt and was hauling him up. Jiang Cheng kicked hard, helping as best he could as his chest burned. The instant his head was above the water he sucked down a greedy breath of air and coughed hard. They were still moving, cutting through the water as easily as the best made ships. A quiet voice urged him to breathe before dunking him under, letting a wave roll over them.

Jiang Cheng forced his eyes open under the water, ignoring the way it burned, and shock made his limbs go stiff. He just barely stopped the instinctive gasp.

That was a mer. Clear as day, lit up by the lightning just above the water, a mer had hold of him. Its tail flipped, and its ears—did mers have ears? —wiggled when it noticed him looking. Yet it still hauled him up above the surface again.

The mer’s head came up and it pointed at a bobbing barrel nearby. With the mer’s help, Jiang Cheng was able to get his arms around it and haul himself up. It was easier to weather the waves, and he could see lifeboats breaking through to bob on the surface of the ocean. He coughed up a lungful of water and pushed his hair out of his eyes.

“Stay,” the mer urged. Its golden eyes cut through the darkness like a candle. He could make out inky black hair fading to sky blue tips just beneath the surface. And then it was gone, under the water and swimming fast.

His ears were roaring, but he could hear cries of relief as some of his crewmates were hauled onto the wreckage of their ship.

“Jiang Cheng!”

His brother’s voice. He lifted himself higher on the barrel, as much as he dared without tipping himself back into the ocean, and waved an arm vigorously. “Wei Ying!”

Wei Ying was rowing an oar boat. The waters around them were calming. Just as fast as the storm had hit, it was fading away. Once close enough, Jiang Cheng shifted his weight and clambered onto the oar boat. It wasn’t elegant in any way, but it was safe, and he laid on the floor shivering in a growing puddle.

“Fucking hell.” He sat up and pushed his hair out of his eyes. The ribbon he’d used to tie it back came loose in his hand, draping down over his shoulder. “Do you know how many made it?”

Wei Ying shook his head, and his mouth was pursed into a thin line with worry pinching his brows. “No. I was one of the first ones to go over after you. But!” His eyes lit up then and a smile replaced that worried look easily. “I saw a mer! A mer, Jiang Cheng.”

Jiang Cheng hummed, looking out over the ocean. The storm had moved on. There were bodies floating around them. He wasn’t sure he’d hallucinated it or not, but if Wei Ying saw one too… “Tell me later,” he said instead. “Let’s get as many in boats as we can. There’s no saving the ship, but we aren’t that far from land.”

Wei Ying gave a mock salute and started rowing towards the people still struggling to stay afloat. Jiang Cheng stood on unsteady legs and hauled them on board. Of the crew of 30, there were 15 left, spread across 3 boats. It made Jiang Cheng’s stomach turn. But that was the price of the sea. Sometimes, you had to pay in blood.

These were taken in the morning (still at Amanda's house). The sun sparkling through the ice was beautiful! A camera could not possibly capture how beautiful it actually was! I'm not kidding!
