what was gorven like climate and society-wise? i keep hearing about how much recovery kay-el needed after leaving it
Gorven is characterized as an arid desert planet with water in the northern hemisphere, and was in the process of being terraformed before the Kroolie Imperial Forces started their war 80 years prior. Since then the project was abandoned, but being an empty livable planet opened up opportunities for many sophonts to begin settling and doing whatever they wanted off the books.
The space is used for dumping trash, decommissioning shipfalls, warehousing, shipping, manufacturing and crime. There’s shipfall towns- temporary settlements where sophonts open up businesses around a ship being stripped for parts , and warehouse towns- permanent settlements surrounding large warehouses established by various companies. It’s rural, empty, and unsafe in many places. Kay el unfortunately was only five when he was on his own, and growing up, the environment was not a safe or nurturing place. My inspirations for Gorven include Sakaar from Thor Ragnarok, Mad Max, Mars, Dune, and Tatooine from Star Wars.
