Stay in school or die?
Well, the internet has taken off with yet another viral video. It has been shared, snapped, keeked, tweeted, and just about anything else all over the worldwide web. Most are used to seeing blood and guts on the silver screen. This time, gore candy takes a whole new form in that of a fake PSA. Stay in school or die, warns the cavalier video. Before taking off to YouTube to ogle the bizarre clip, please be warned that is very much graphic, thus not meant for normal consumption. If you're a bit too squeamish, NO JUDGEMENT, then a written depiction is below.
The video starts out like that of a standard, beautiful day. Four kids decided to ditch school and take off on the road. The sun is shining, music is playing, and everyone seems so very happy. They sneak into what looks to be a deserted, empty beach. The teens frolic shamelessly in the sand and roll around with their respective partners in the water. Just as a girl playful runs from her assumed boyfriend, she explodes without warning. The boy, covered in the remains of the female, takes a few steps and meets an identical happenstance. Now we're down to two teens, for those of you keeping up with the math. They take each other's hands and begin to run; hoping to escape a similar fate. The boy lets go of the girl and claims that she is slowing him down. He continues to run, sets off another mine, and is blown to pieces, Our last teen is soaked in blood and screams for dear life. The camera shows you the fence they snuck through. It dons an "EXPLOSIVES TESTING SITE" sign, thus justifying the horror depicted. "This is what happens when you slack off.", the video warns.
There's been a lot of uproar about the viral video. Let's get one thing straight, It is not a real PSA! The website for the advertised Learn For Life Foundation isn't legit either. There's not much information or contact details available. There's a convenient link to this viral bloodbath, though. Upon further research, I discovered that the filmmakers have pulled these shenanigans before. They like making videos and they like hoaxing people. It all makes sense.
A friend of mine told me that this PSA was too brash with delivering it's message of staying in school. While it is an extreme depiction, it hammers a point home. I also read a little deeper between the blood and guts. From that moment of enlightenment, I drew two points in my mind. 1. These kids appear to go to some kind of fancy academy; not a normal high school. They appear to be somewhat "well off". There may be an equality angle here. You know how your Mom always said "The grass isn't always greener on the other side?" It's kind of like that, except with a chain-link fence enclosing a minefield. You follow, right?
2. There really is something to be said about young ones thinking they're untouchable. Young kids think nothing can happen to them. Reckless behavior doesn't phase them. They are deceived by this false notion that only the old die, and that is just not the case,
Good food for thought from a phony PSA, right? Leave your thoughts, feelings, concerns, criticisms, jokes, what-have-you. Unlike a lot of others, I actually care.
