Heavy Halo is a new band that features two familiar faces from the NYC underground scene in Mike McKeever, leader of experimental digi-pop outfit Life Size Maps, alongside dark techno house producer Gosteffects. Together, they’ve assembled a sleekly-designed industrial goth-grunge machine that will kick into full gear this November when they release their debut full-length. The timing of their next chapters in music is of the moment given that we’re in the throes of a rekindled interest in Deftones-influenced nü-metal and maximalist millennial-era alternative formations in rock music.
Early singles “Black Seed” and “Crush” offering up two different glimpses of what Heavy Halo can do within that spectrum. On the former, electricity violently pulsates a blacklit-infused rave thrashing through the growl of McKeever’s chorus, while the latter submerges itself beneath dense layers of dream-pop and heavenly static. Videos for each listen were directed by META, with each being cataclysmic shocks of light and vantage points of Heavy Halo’s visceral presence tearing through black curtains.
Heavy Halo’s debut full length will be released November 5th.
