saw another likes vs reblogs discussion on my dash and idk i just don’t think any amount of complaining about it or guilting people is going to change people’s behavior. something’s gotta change about the apps we use, i think. I often wonder, if we removed likes altogether and kept only reblogs, would that make things better? or dredge up some hard to swallow pills? At least for me, I don’t think I’d get any more reblogs than I already do. I think what people are fighting is an oversaturated market.

at any rate, I’m just done agonizing about it cause i no longer want to hinge validation about my art on likes and reblogs. I’ve felt emotionally up and down on my art based on likes and reblogs in the past and it’s ultimately made making art unenjoyable. And i don’t blame nonreblogging people for that, i blame these microblogging apps I’ve used since i was a young adult fucking with my head. even when you get a lot of reblogs and fun to read tags, it’s never enough; the notes fade, the high fades, and you must create again in order to get the feeling back.

Three ships:

1. Baze/Chirrut (aka spiritassassin aka chiba): my OTP of the last nearly 4 years <3; Everyone here knows I love this pairing, but I’ve GOTTA talk about them! Battle couple, equally badass warriors, committed partners, a long shared history, playful banter and bickering, a deep, deep connection, they went through so much, so many changes, but they managed to stick together throughout it all. I have a 6 hour playlist dedicated to them along with my other playlists for them. They got me drawing again (amidst constant intermittent art-block). I’ve reread much of the 788ish fics specifically for them (that is, they’re the primary pairing) on Ao3 multiple times over the years. Most of all, I’ve met some awesome people through love of this pairing <3.

2. Big Boss (aka John)/Ocelot (aka Adamska): Metal Gear Solid series. Another pairing that spans a 40+ year shared history; it’s complicated with Big Boss. A lot of people think Ocelot’s love for Big Boss is one-sided but I don’t think it’s that simple; I think Big Boss is unable or unwilling to love anyone ever again after his Tragic Backstory™️. But he’s definitely fond of certain people, and Ocelot was one of them. Additionally, on a narrative level, you can’t introduce a love interest named EVA, a rival with a crush named ADAM, and a main character with the code-name SNAKE, proceed to have EVA and ADAM follow the SNAKE till the end of the timeline, and NOT have it trying to say something. If you’ve ever heard “it’s a russian tuant” before, it is referring to Ocelot kissing Snake on the cheek during a fight...well...Liquid Ocelot fighting Old Snake but during the part where the music and player names represent MGS3 and...oh, nevermind!!!

3. Majima Goro/Saejima Taiga: Yakuza Series. Yet ANOTHER pairing with a long history (I’m sensing a theme), these guys are blood brothers (the games use the term “kyoudai”). They already had a strong bond as young men, but when a hit they were supposed to do together doesn’t turn out how they planned, Saejima goes to prison for 25 years while Majima is kicked out of his clan. He spends those years trying to get back into the clan and make a place for Saejima when he returns, if he returns. He returns, of course. This pairing has high drama but ultimately a happy ending, in my estimation. It intrigues me because Majima is a very eccentric person (to some extent by choice) yet Saejima understands him like no other character. They “get” each other. Saejima doesn’t actually show up in the games until Yakuza 4 and that game wasn’t exactly noticed or available until recently, so there is more instances of Majima/Kiryu (the main character) in Western fandom content. I understand that, especially because Majima and Kiryu have that ever-popular rival thing going on. But while Majima is definitely interested in Kiryu, I am more intrigued by Majima/Saejima because Majima’s interest in Kiryu is based on the fact that he reminds him of Saejima. Additionally, Kiryu does not understand Majima the same way.

Honorable Mention (cause I just played it again):

Die-Hardman (John Blake McClane)/Clifford “Cliff” Unger: did ANYONE play Death Stranding all the way through besides me? Just in case, SPOILERS BELOW:

So Mads is Die-Hardman’s commanding officer back before the apocalypse and Die-Hardman is called Die-Hardman cause he DIES HARD, MAN. He always manages to escape the battlefield alive, but he says it’s because Cliff saved him and his men time and time again. In an epic scene near the end of the game (brilliantly acted by Die-Hardman’s actor Tommie Earl Jenkins) he admits to Sam (Norman Reedus) that he loves Cliff as much as he loves the President, Bridget Strand (Lindsay Wagner), who he serves as her second in command. This is a pairing of the tragic variety.

PS: did you know Tommie Earl Jenkins has a 90′s eurodance single?

Last song(s): I’ve been really into Victoria Monét’s Jaguar EP.  I love the entire EP but I keep replaying the interlude We Might Even Be Falling in Love

I can’t stop listening to In Your Eyes - The Weeknd

Look, I can’t get enough of the retro sound that’s creeping back into pop music. I loved it in 2013 with Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories and songs like Treasure by Bruno Mars and I love it now!! BTW, Janelle Monáe’s Electric Lady came out that year as well and if you’ve never listened to it you’re missing out. (the radio interludes alone offer more unique storytelling on the android theme than the entirety of Detroit: Become Human. DBH WISHES).

Last movie: I am awful with keeping up with all the new films, but the last movie I watched was The Old Guard! <3

Currently craving: those pumpkin munchkins hanging out in the fridge but I’m gonna WAIT and eat them with breakfast because I’m an adult and I can.
