Game of Thrones - Dark Wings, Dark Words (SPOILERS for ASOS)
It feels like I fangirled throughout the episode this time. YAY Jaime and Brienne! YAY Bran and the Reeds! YAY Mance! YAY Arya and Gendry and Hot Pie! YAY Sansa and the Tyrells! YAY the Brotherhood!
It's good to see they are not going through the path we all feared with the Reeds (that is, that they would come from the mountain clans instead of being cronnogmen), but I found it curious that they decided to go with Howland not sharing anything about the war with his children, since in the books they seem to know much more about it and what came before (and probably the ToJ as well) than the Starks. But hey, Jojen is creepy enough, I love him already, and Meera is a badass, though I'm looking forward to seeing some action and, most of all, some important conversations and warging lessons.
Since season two I've fallen in love with the interactions between Shae and Sansa. Shae was never a character I could stand (seriously, I felt like skipping her scenes in the books, but I'm too obsessive to do that), but her protecting Sansa seems enough for me to find a fondness for the character. I wonder what they're going to do about that after the PW, when she's supposed to lie about Sansa and Tyrion's involvement in that mess, but it will probably make us feel bad for her situation instead of hating her like the book.
Was Sansa supposed to have that conversation with Olenna and Margaery this soon? It feels so much like they're rushing this story, I sincerely hope she doesn't flee before the PW, and that the PW doesn't happen before they bring Oberyn to the show. But how I love the Queen of Thorns, even more than in the books, if that's possible! And Margaery playing Joffrey's game is just perfect. I confess I had my fears about the actress throughout season two, but she's brilliant in this one. And Loras is as adorable as ever, but when is he going to get his white cloak? Mandon Moore and the Hound are gone, so, two spots on the Kingsguard, right?
Drunken Thoros is such an ass, which is a pity, for I really liked the character. I think in the show he's supposed to be also playing the part of the Lemoncloak, to be this unbearable? Possibly Tom O'Sevens as well, as disappointing as it will be not to have him. Hells, it feels like we've lost almost all of the Brotherhood already, when Harwin has been replaced by the Hound in revealing Arya, and I doubt we'll have Edric Dayne.
I keep wondering what the hell they seem to be doing with Catelyn on the show. First, they make us mostly love her, then hate her, now they want us to love her again? I must say I really don't see her praying for Jon, no matter what, but that was a touching scene, brought tears to my eyes, actually. Michelle Fairley is simply one of the best actresses on this show, which was evident to me the moment she started making me sympathize with her character on season one. But I'll bet her saying everything bad that happened to her family is punishment for her not being a mother to Jon will be used as a way for haters to justify their belief that everything bad in the world is her fault - "see, even the show says so" lol
I felt so bad for Cersei being shown yet again how much of a piece of shit her favorite son can be. And I had to look away when Theon was being tortured, as much as I might hate the character (who'd know TV makes things look more real?). Interesting, they really want to keep the charade with Iwan Rheon, but I'm guessing they're just following the patterns we have in the books of his befriending Theon before... hehehe, you know...
Jaime and Brienne, no words can describe that level of perfection. Suffice it to say that, as brilliant as they were playing those characters, it was evident to me how much fun Nikolaj and Gwendoline were having in those scenes.
