I can finally post my piece for the Shatterverse zine! You can find a download link the whole zine here-- it's free! Enjoy a moment of Ghosts of the Future~
so how bout those wings huh
I think I've posted most of these before, but it's been a while, and I had fun looking at them today-- here's my little collection of concept drawings for Ghosts of the Future, from probably the summer of 2007. It's fun to see what made it into the comic and what didn't. (Nicolai the Lynx was an OC who was going to be an antagonist-- a GUN scientist sorta guy. He was replaced by Nicole before the comic started, which reshaped a lot of the story's direction)
I can’t remember if I asked this before, but how does Sonic Control work in Ghosts of the Future?
In GOTF, Sonic is Chaos Energy, and Chaos Energy is Sonic. The essence of his being is imprinted into and continuously emulated by the flow of Chaos Energy. This means that he's basically a conscious Chaos Emerald on his own, and the Emeralds are extensions of his being.
And Shadow, being Mr. Chaos Energy Expert, picked up on this basically immediately and actually probably understands the implications and applications of this way better than Sonic does... Sonic kinda tries not to think about it very hard. It's a whole lot easier to say "I'm a ghost!" and restrict yourself to doing ghostly stuff than to wrestle with the existential implications of what he actually is... especially since the more he thinks about it, and the more Chaos power he uses, the less of a person he seems to be. Note that I said Sonic's essence was emulated by Chaos Energy, not preserved. But Sonic's identity crises aside, Shadow's more pragmatic perspective allows him to see Sonic's Chaos Energy in the same way he sees the Chaos Emeralds, and use it similarly. It's not entirely utilitarian though; it necessitates a profound level of trust between them, as Shadow can't use Sonic in this way without his knowledge and consent (unless he, like, did it by force, but that'd be horrible for Sonic and Shadow wouldn't do that at this point in their relationship).
