This is one of those classics that live up to their "hype". A gut-wrenching discussion on racial and economic discrimination, plus family dynamics and generational trauma. Also, I love that she made all the characters so annoying that I, in fact, detest them. lovely to be able to read this kind of revolutionary/ highly criticized works at the time.

This morning, as I do many mornings, I picked up six black items of clothing in a row before I found the one I was looking for. It was a late start.

Me: I put my clothes on. But my silhouette is showing. I'm not sure I'm okay with that.

Her: You have a delightful silhouette!

Me: Do my students need to know that?

Her: They have... probably already deduced it.

I was running late enough that I decided not to change.
