I found this image on decoist.com, although that site claims the source is Pottery Barn. I couldn't find it on the Pottery Barn website. I suspect they took it down after Halloween. Regardless. I think this looks pretty cool.

(The first link is full of mostly cheesy Halloween ideas, but I did like this one. Although... the candle right next to those books is maybe not the best idea.)

I think adding a touch of dark elements can go a long way to creating an overall gothic style that's a little more subtle and romantic, and this is a pretty nice way to do that. The author of the tutorial at laviediy.blogspot.com (go check it out) points out that it's not something that lasts forever, but it's still a cool idea.

Nifty painted plates for wall decor. The source (designmom.com) did it as a Halloween project, but there's lots of potential there. She says they used enamel paint, which makes me think you could probably do this very easily with a can of spray paint. I'm imagining layered effects from using black and then maybe a light coat of metallic silver or copper... I'd better stop myself before I start getting carried away. But yes. Awesome idea.
