JK Flesh: Depersonalization (2020)
Who else besides Justin Broadrick can create a myriad of sounds and ideas at such a prolific and ambitious rate? His discography is getting bigger by the day, and seems like every time I wake up he has a new record out. For those who only partially recovered from the four releases he did last year (with Klaska, Goth Trad, Orphx, and as himself), here’s a new one to bargain with via Hospital Productions in the form of a double-cassette outing exploring the devaluation of self and individualization. Depersonalization is built on older tracks but no question feels fresh and always delivering that thick, murky, predatory cargo; with some elements from his dub-techno alias Solaris B.C. dialed up for more power. “Autopilot” does just that will all the heavy pressurized power it could muster. Even the spirit of The Sidewinder thrives on for “Disassociation” with its’ drowsy hypnotics and hammering rhythms. Drips of arpeggio electronics spurt minimally on the title track and the closer “Only An Observer” says it all in the eyes of the title; staring ominously and demonically with pit viper eyes through the vapors horizons away. Looks like I found a new favorite techno record.
