i've gotten 50+ responses asking if the spam my gmail account sent yesterday was spam or not. which is annoying for me, but that's part of what happens, people wanting to check, i get that, so okay.
what's weird is that only half a dozen people thought to contact me by text or even just writing a new email. everyone else's instinct was hit "reply" to the spam email.
.........thereby forwarding the spam back to me. the spam i deleted the moment i realized i got hacked.
please do not do voluntarily send me spam my account sent you without my consent.
i've separated out three levels of response in order of how annoying they are:
1) not terribly annoying at all: someone texting me or sending me their own email to inform me or ask me if i've been hacked. interestingly, it is mostly adults who have been alive for twice as long as there's been widely accessible internet who take this option. i don't know about causation, but definitely correlation there. and sometimes, these messages have just been very pleasant and from people i haven't heard from in a while. plus i don't have to delete them.
2) a little frustrating: someone replies directly to the spam email. usually with a short sentence like "did you get hacked?" or "i think you got hacked." i have left "yep. sorry. delete it." in my clipboard to reply to these before re-deleting the emails.
3) pretty annoying: unbelievably, some people are replying directly to the email and THEN getting SASSY with me about the fact that i got hacked. so far people who choose to be sassy or bitchy about it have chosen no medium other than replying directly to the email. which makes them lecturing me about getting hacked really odd and extremely frustrating.
4) i know i said three levels but i'd like to point out again that i got hate mail last night in response to SPAM SENT FROM MY ACCOUNT THAT I HAD NO CONTROL OVER. ugh.
