New US comic publisher?
There's a new kids and family production powerhouse on the block. Cynopsis reports Komixx Entertainment and the Gotham Group have formed KG Entertainment, based in Los Angeles.
The new joint venture will develop and co-produce content focusing on multiplatform brands for kids to young adult audiences, including comics.
KGE's first project will be a live-action production based on Monster Republic, Hot House Fiction's highly praised series of sci-fi novels, published by Random House Children's Publishers.
RHCP since 2009 has had a partnership with Komixx, Random House Children's Screen Entertainment, a full-service screen entertainment producer and distributor focusing exclusively on RHCP-published books and characters.
The Gotham Group has a client roster of 300 directors, screenwriters, authors, publishers, animation studios, illustrators, and comic book companies; it has first-look deals at Sony Pictures Animation and ABC Studios. Gotham is currently in production on an untitled adaptation of Elmore Leonard's Switch with Jennifer Aniston, and just started production at 20th Century Fox on The Maze Runner, based on James Dashner's novel. Past Gotham credits include The Spiderwick Chronicles (Paramount), and in television the Annie-winning and Emmy-nominated Creature Comforts America (CBS) and Elmo's Christmas Countdown (ABC).

In early June, I was called in by casting director Samantha Stiglitz (whom I met at a workshop in the spring) to audition for The Gotham Group's mockumentary pilot called "Welcome to Reality", written and directed by Matthew Tente and Justin Remillard. Remillard has worked behind the camera on several reality TV shows and wanted to explore what went on in the room where the executives are coming up with these shows. The role for the small-town, mid-western Marley was a perfect fit, and I booked the job.
The shoot was incredibly enjoyable, as the creators gave the cast freedom to play around and improvise off of their already hilarious script.
Also this week, I started taking class with the very talented and passionate Matthew Barry, who has cast such films as "Con Air", "Rush Hour 1 & 2", "The Notebook", and "Waiting for Guffman". I can't say enough good things.
The classic Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls are heading for the bigscreen as a musical comedy via a producing partnership between The Gotham Group and puppeteer Kevin Clash.
Project aims to take the dolls -- created by Johnny Gruelle for his daughter Marcella -- into a contemporary, live-action setting with celebrity cameos accompanying them on their journey. Pic will blend puppetry and CG to bring the characters to life.
