house md characters and the mythical creatures I think suit them the most: part one

note: I am very bad at writing out like explanations so if this sucks my apologies !!

Amber Volakis: Siren

my reasoning is that, for one, sirens are female mythical creatures known for their alluring voices which are used to attract their victims. while amber was house’s hallucination, she sang to him with an eerie yet lovely voice to mock him, proving to him that he couldn’t get rid of her.

adding onto the “to attract their victims” part, sirens did it to lure (typically) sailors to their demise. amber, in the house divided episode, has house invite karamel to chase’s bachelor party, and when chase goes into anaphylactic shock, it is revealed that house knew that chase was allergic to strawberries and that karamel’s body butter smelled of strawberries and yet still followed through with it, because of the fact that amber is his subconscious and because he actually somewhat wanted to follow through with it despite it putting chase at risk.

according to britannica, referring to a siren story, “butes alone was compelled by the sirens’ voices to jump into the water, but his life was saved by the goddess Cypris, a cult name for Aphrodite.” when amber was singing to house, he stops for a moment (out of shock) to listen to her singing, before asking for wilson to come and get him. so, he listens to the siren’s (amber’s) voice to jump into the water (maybe continue with his hallucinations? as when she is singing, she is singing about him “enjoying himself” while he is “still in the pink”) but his life was saved by the goddess Cypris (getting into a psychiatric hospital meant to help him with his hallucinations, amongst other things.)

in the same article, they use hyginus’s fabulae, no. 141, quoting, “a mortal’s ability to resist them causes the sirens to commit suicide.” after season five when house enters the psychiatric hospital, we don’t see amber until season eight, so in a sense the hallucination has committed suicide by no longer existing as a worse part of house’s subconscious.

also (and this one is not quite as deep) sirens are tempters. amber is a tempter to house to do bad things (as shown through her enabling house in almost killing chase.)

Amber Volakis being the most Gothic House M.D Character:

1. showed up at the graveyard alone while the others were unaware and didn’t make her presence known until their flashlight was able to identify, causing them to get frightened (two times more gothic because they were digging a grave.)

2. faked that the ghost of a patient Remy had killed had been looming over her in their afterlife by letting the topic be heard by their current patient, as well as leaving a dog collar in a room they were in with her so that Remy could see it and be frightened.

3. deceived cameron by “appealing to her humanity” and telling her what she wanted to hear and then proceeding to do the same thing to chase (the other half of that.)

4. was the reasoning behind chase’s strawberry allergy being brought about at his bachelor party.

5. constantly haunted house, appearing as his hallucination and as his subconscious.
