April 8, 2020 - Maybe, just maybe, getting into the swing of things again
I have been trying for much of this year to get back into the swing of health and fitness lifestyle this year. It seems with one thing and another - work responsibilities, uncooperative weather, and of course the pandemic concern - my best laid plans have gone awry, or at least been sidetracked time and time again.
This week might just mark the turning point.
Here in south central Kansas, stay-at-home is not mandatory (yet) and in fact getting out and exercising is encouraged. With my retirement in just over two weeks, my shifts are being reassigned and my work schedule it... well, more reasonable anyway! And we were actually getting Spring temperatures finally, I have actually gotten in four (count ‘em) decent rides in the furst four days of this week!
Sunday was a four mile loop around my neighborhood. (And a stop at my favorite sandwich shop. Glad to see they were still over, but as might be expected all business was call-in, delivery or carry out.) Monday was a ride to the mall. It is totally closed... dear me, are my grandkids gonna be disappointed. Then Tuesday was a longer ride to the local grocery store. They are still out of the fresh, locally grown garlic, so I settled for some peeled, bagged garlic.
Then today I decided on a longer tide. I headed east towards downtown, and on the way took the above selfie. But I turned north on West St. and stopped at a bicycle shop to get my tires aired up. From there I headed northeast on Zoo Blvd. to Sedgwick County Park. LOTS of runners, cyclists and walkers out today, and I also saw one rollerblader.
Would have liked to stay out longer but I had a get-together with family that evening. So I headed home around 5:00 pm feeling great!
It seems like everything that could have screwed up over the past six months or so has. Maybe now it the time to remind myself I don’t have to let my life turn into one big screw-up just because of it.
