NASA’s first Mars colony ship has been in orbit for almost 4 years. You have dreamt of this moment since you were a small child. You clutch onto the picture of your family as you look around at all the other smiling, excited and nervous faces.
Backwards cap, short jacket and a smartphone clenched in his hands. He gets up and slowly walks past you. Everyone else is too busy looking out the window to notice. But you have. You notice him brush past you, notice him walk towards the back of the ship. You follow him as curiosity turns to horror. You see his hand reach out for the emergency clasp
“What are you doing!” You ask bewildered, but the man turns around and you see it. More joy in his eyes then on the faces of anyone else as he raises his phone up
“Deoxys…50 miles that way” the croaky voice is ignored as you focus on the finger pointing into the black depths of space.
You drop this picture of your family as a tear swells up in your eye as you place your old, wrinkly hand on the clasp, remember a time when you threw a master ball at rayquaza and had to let Deoxys go. You promised yourself decades ago you’d never let him escape again
“Not this time” You croak as you pull on the clasp and allow the door to burst open
