"A summary of last night's episode...more or less..."
Can I ramble here?; what I'm still trying to understand is why turn her ~now ~ into Alayne, was it because she'll use the protection of the Lords of The Vale too? I mean, she could be Sansa Stark because the Lords would protect her, she wouldn't be only under Petyr's, so there shouldn't be the need to change her Persona, but now she will be Alayne and the Lords will know that she actually is Sansa... ? I don't get it, being Alayne was to hide from them, too. *thinking intensifies*
I think we’re all trying to wrap our heads around it, honestly. It’s a pretty bizarre move. One of the hardest things, as I rambled in a tag earlier, about re-characterizing a character is that you then have to deal with the ramifications of that character’s re-characterization when you’re constructing plot that’s heavily based on character. As a result, I’m going to ramble back at you.
I don’t think she was ever going to be kept secret for very long. The whole Harry the Heir plot doesn’t make sense at all unless you reveal that she is in fact Sansa Stark. I think they were trying to make her story more convincing somehow—and it would be more convincing from Sansa’s POV than Alayne’s, especially if they were going with the suicide route. (Saying that Lysa jumped to me was actually a pretty smooth fix to the lack of Marillion, in a twisted sort of way.)
And I think one thing that the show is trying to address is that Sansa, as a 15-16-17-however old they are making her girl, is not going to be under Petyr’s thumb in the same way that a 13-year-old Sansa is. Developmentally, there is just so much different there. Thus, the “transition to Alayne” will be inherently different because of Sansa’s age. (This makes me even more curious to see how Arya’s storyline will develop once she hits Braavos.)
And so, to the viewers, it has to make sense why she’s “throwing in with him”. (A matter I’m intrigued to see developed—whether she’s playing with manipulating him, or if she’s trusting him. I’m inclined to believe the former, though I will confess to wishful thinking on that front which probably colors my analysis.) And for that, you need to show her giving some level of ownership to her actions.
So, yes—I think it’s weird that they’re having her become more like Alayne now, but it also makes sense to me to some extent? Alayne was to protect her from Lannister spies; clearly that’s not Petyr’s actual priority, though, since he’s trying to make her his mini-me. So then, having Sansa actively become a more Alayne-type-person is going to be very different, with different ramifications, especially if she’s becoming a manipulator, which Sophie has said that she is in interviews.
((Y'all, in a similar vein to my asking you to tag Joffrey's death face, can you please tag your Oberyn's death face? Because I can't handle it at all. I'm blocking posts as I can, but....yeah...sth like "dead oberyn" idk...whatever works...))
Is it just me, or did Sansa re-adopt Margaery-Hair in last night's episode?
We didn't get a good look at it, but that would be interesting if it were the case, given how Sansa takes on people's hairstyles when she wants to emulate them, and if she's trying to turn into a grand-manipulator...
AND IN THAT MOMENT I SWEAR WE ALL WERE ARYA
