Game of Thrones, potential spoiler theory.

One of my favourite (of a small amount, because hey, I'm new to this) Has got to be one I like to call the potential spoiler because I'm not fully sure if its true or not! I read/heard about this whilst listening to the Epic History of House Stark on youtube.

We all know that Jon Snow is a bastard, and that his father is Eddard Stark, right? Or so we are lead to believe.

BUT who is his mother? 

If we go back to Robert's Rebellion, the whole reason the battle occurred was because Rhaegar Targaryen kidnapped his betrothed; Lyanna Stark. Fastforwarding to the time of her death, after Robert had killed Rahegar, Ned was there besides her as she was dying, and her last words were "Promise me Ned." What could this promise be?

In the books, she's referred to as lying on a Bed of Blood, which if I recall correctly, refers to childbirth. I assume dying during childbirth in Westeros is pretty common since it's in a Medieval setting. 

After the battle, Ned Stark returns with a new-born baby son that he apparently fathered, despite being a man who is extremely stiff and honourable, and a secret. 

I'm unsure and there's not much evidence to support this theory but I believe Jon Snow could be the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen.
