Happy new year from Marisol and fluffy butt Rascal! May you find lots of joy in 2023!
I got goty 2005 Marisol Luna’s debut catalog! #americangirltok #dolltok #americangirldoll #y2k
I spent seven minutes talking about this catalog (sorry not sorry) if you wanna check it out!
Expanding Marisol Luna’s collection
Unlike Lindsey and Kailey, Marisol was the first GOTY to have a larger collection that fits her book (kind of, obviously they didn't make her folkorico skirts). These are some things I’ve added to my Marisol’s collection based on her book.
Chicago Cubs stuff - Marisol mentions the Cubs a few times in her book, as well as the Chicago Bears. AG did giveaways at games for years, so there's several jerseys and casual sets available on ebay! I'm really fond of the hoodie on her.
Isabelle's clothes - If you're interested in more ballet wear, Isabelle's collection has a lot. I particularly love her leotard and scrunch pants.
Ballet barre - AG has made a couple variations of the barre over the years. A dear friend got me this set from Costco a few years ago and I love every piece in it.
Himalayan Kitten - I love little Rascal, but this cat makes a great alternative! And, it's poseable.
Cat Care Essentials - This set is so stinkin' cute.
AGP Chicago stuff - I love collecting old AGP Chicago exclusive items for Marisol. There's a ton since Chicago was the first store! I guess it's pretty touristy if her shirt says Chicago on it, but I don't care.
Mexican foods - AG has a ton of Mexican foods over the years with various sets. Everything from tacos, burritos, churros and quesadillas to tortillas and grilled corn. I'm hoping we'll get some new stuff, like elote, with future World By Us sets. I also highly recommend making your own! American Girl Ideas has tutorials for tacos and tamales.
Candy - Zuru 5 Surprise Mini Brands (series 3 has a lot of candy) or make your own! Marisol mentions hiding candy in her dance trunk, and she throws it out her bedroom window to the neighborhood kids. American Girl Ideas has some great tutorials for candy bars and boxed candy.
Folklorico dress - Marisol's ballet folklorico dancing is soooo important to her story and her character. I recommend buying from this Etsy seller. You can even request a custom order, she'll make you any color you want! (I think Marisol mentions a yellow Jalisco skirt?) I pair mine with Ruthie's meet shoes, but any black mary jane shoes would look great.
Marisol’s Story and Trip to the Doll Hospital
Marisol Luna, Girl of the Year 2005, was my very first real American Girl doll. She was a Christmas gift from a family friend. I had wanted her, not only because she looked like me, but also because she and I also had many things in common. For example, we both come from Hispanic families and we are both dancers. I even kind of look like her! My family couldn’t afford her, so I was not able to get her until that Christmas. When I opened her, I was ecstatic to finally have my own American Girl doll!
Getting an American Girl doll at a young age was great, but it also meant that I didn’t take very good care of her. My eleven-year-old self thought it would be a brilliant idea to cut her hair. (I wish I could go back in time and tell myself, “DON’T DO IT! IT’S A TERRIBLE MISTAKE!”) So now, she’s sporting a triangle haircut. Due to being played with for so many years, her skin is also dirty. I’ve included pictures to show you the condition this poor girl is in. Now that I’m back into dolls, I think it’s time to fix her up.
When it came to fixing Marisol, I knew I had two options: I could either try to fix her up myself or send her to the Doll Hospital. Although I have never restored a doll before, I figured since her problems are minor (in other words, she doesn’t need anything too invasive like re-stringing or an eye replacement), I could try my hand at restoring her. She would need a re-wigging and a good skin cleaning. After thinking about it for a while, I decided to send her to the Doll Hospital instead. I can’t bear the possibility of ruining her head in an attempt to re-wig her. Plus, I couldn’t find a wig that I really loved for her (I admit, maybe I could have spent more time looking, I gave up after only a little while). So, to the Doll Hospital she goes! Please wish Marisol a speedy “recovery!”
i love my marisol doll but i don’t like her canon outfits. from her collection i have (most of) the meet outfit and ballet outfit but they’re both so ill fitting on her— like the meet top always shows her belly and the leotard is ridiculously tight. it’s honestly a shame she didn’t get a folklorico outfit when in her meet book it mentions her skirts. have you seen those types of skirts? they’re gorgeous!
