Dream Home Decorator: Build & Buy Preview

This is where the pack really shines. A lot of effort was given to provide a lot of usable content to decorate with when employed as an interior designer. I assume this was done for those that may only have this pack plus basegame. So we get the modular items, two kitchens, two sectionals, and quite a few beds/bunkbeds and other items. There are 140 new build/buy items (136 if you take out combined bunkbed items)for the pack which is really unprecedented. 

This is not really representative of total work, as modular sofas contain about 8 pieces each, the chaise parts are 4 items (yes, individual so plenty of choice), and then there are all the kitchen parts (full kitchens with counters, cabinets and islands). The modular stuff also can be put together in a myriad of ways which just increases it’s usefulness. 

The colour choice is also lovely. It’s very muted/pastel in nature, not a scheme we often get and it helps integrate it with other styles. I do think it’s a decent number of swatches, but i would also not say not to more, but I do love choice. 

Does this come at the cost of anything? Well of course. This pack is lighter on gameplay then other GPs and there is no getting around that fact. With a strict budget you have to divide your time much like a person would do during a day. You can’t make more daylight to get things done, you make do and divide up your time to accomplish what you want. Do i think it was a bad decision? No. This pack is going to appeal to a specific player that likes building and decorating, and quite frankly, it’s a group that often gets ignored (Can we just remember all those times when we get a gameplay heavy pack but build/buy is seriously lacking?). Builders are often regulated to second place when it comes to packs so I am all for getting a GP that has loads of useful items and a nice career I can enjoy when I actually play and interact with sims of the world. Does it sometimes feel shallow? Yes. But i don’t think it detracts here. Just give me all the buildmode content because I doubt i will ever get another pack with this sheer amount of items that are this useable.

It’s true. GP10 is on Spotty / all streaming services now! Some thoughts real quick-

The guy changing my oil at Valvoline today could not believe we would do a comp album for 10 years and make no money. He, a rapper himself, was flabbergasted and could not think about any other question to ask other than “is it working out for you?” or “maybe it will work out for you soon?”

I didnt do the artist write ups this year. Honestly no one has said anything to me about them for the past few years so I didn’t think anyone would notice. So far two people have. Humphrey Orlando and my friend Victor in Austria. Sorry guys... I was sick and stressed the days around Christmas and I was working on my own song, LC song, Lil Sticc song, and the Zine and the Zoom party and all that jazz and I just said FUCK THESE WRITE UPS THIS YEAR NO ONE READS THEM ANYWAY. I’ll probably bring them back next year though. 

Kate killed it on the cover art and the sweaters she made sold out in the first hour. :) 

Honest to goodness everyone’s song this year is really great and I have to say this and GP1 are probably my favorite Group Pictures, and that’s coming from a guy who religiously doesn’t pick favorites.

Dream Home Decorator: Gameplay Preview

Peacy playing the game? What is this sorcery!?

I do play the game, not in the traditional and ‘expected’ way, but I do play. With TS3 I bought Ambitions solely for the interior design career, so this was right up my ally. To say I have actually played this career a lot and not done every job type yet should say a lot. 

The career is a gig format that you choose what client to work with from a panel in the job section. Be sure to know the names of the sims in your world, because you have no other clues as to who they are or where they live. You start out with “room renovation” which is dealers choice. Is it open plan? Gotta do it all. Anything you delete will get added to the total amount you can spend, so that is not too much of an issue and i didn’t go over budget on any of my gigs (yet). 

You do need to get to know your clients which job-specific interactions. The best likes/dislikes to get are decor and colour preferences, and these you can convince them to give you other options for. Get “dislikes science” then you can’t seem to reroll that for something more helpful at all. Which sucks and i really hate. When you get the max amount of likes/dislikes for a job and they are all dislikes, it makes the project very challenging to complete. They don’t like it? You may get them returning and you can try again and hopefully get a better reroll. 

I had 1 failed project, and went back to fix it when they came back for it. Luckily they liked it more the second time around. My reputation was intact and can keep my “keen eye for design” badge now. 

I have yet to try room addition and level addition jobs as I didn’t want to cheat my progress so I really can’t comment on the higher level jobs. But you get the basic room renovation, a specific room, level reno, room addition, and level addition. A nice variety of job types and challenges associated with getting a good result. You are also not limited to residential lots, and commercial lots do pop up. 

There is also a reveal portion to the gig, where you can show off your renovation to the clients. I did this a few times, and the new animations added for your sims waiting for the outcome of the job are cute. But after a while the extra step was annoying for me as i wanted to try more jobs, so luckily there is an option not to throw a reveal and you can get the results instantly. Just up my alley. 

There is also a new home decorator network and I highly recommend you watching it for the 2 shows. They are hilarious. Apparently my work was going to be featured on one of the shows, but missed the time slot when it was happening. So i am going to have to see if my save point is before so i can catch it. 

Overall i think this pack delivers on what it sets out, but if you are looking for more then what it is then you will be disappointed. The new likes/dislikes system is nice and will definitely be adding them to my sims in the future, and i do love the idea of making over the horrid Maxis homes for those poor sims. So this is right up my alley, if it doesn’t appeal to everyone. And I am OK with that. If a pack tried to appeal to every unique playstyle in the community, it wouldn’t achieve anything. Not your cup of tea? Skip it or pick it up on sale for the buymode items (I think it’s worth the pack just for those, like Vampires was for the build/buy content). It wont be for everyone and that is ok in my book, because how often do the builders get a pack right up their alley? Not in recent memory from my recollection.

Dream Home Decorator: CAS Preview

Courtesy of the EAGameChangers program, I was able to get early access to the new Dream Home Decorator Game Pack. I will give you my honest opinion of what I think, but right up front, this pack feels like it was made for me, or at least people that play the game like me. Not everyone enjoys legacies, and get their enjoyment from building and decorating in the game. If you are one of those people that think that is not gameplay, you are on the wrong blog and this pack is definitely not for you. Now, lets get into it. 

There is a new preferences system which is a nice addition and plays into this pack. Choosing your sims likes and dislikes (a total of 20 options right now) in a variety of categories will give sims a bit more personality (hopefully) and this pack plays off that. 

CAS items are included, but definitely a weak point. The guys gets 2 hairs and if you are really into 2000s Justin Beiber then does it have the hair for you. The other will be great for older sims with receding hairlines, and age bracket often neglected so more choices there is always nice, but not used much. 

The female frame content is much more varied, and the stand out hair is definitely this Jessica Rabbit-esque hair. The dresses are also quite casual, but a lot of the clothing isn’t very business-like and mostly on the casual side. The boots are nice, but not really anything new either, and do clearly clip with the pack pants (which I find unflattering and probably wont use). Overall, it’s fine but not great. The plaid shirt will be used a lot, same with the jacket and tee along with the boots, but that’s about it for me. But this pack really shines in the buymode category.
