Program: Air on the G String

I don’t think there is a better exemplification of Shoma’s skating than this program. Each jump until the last 4T was so light and airy, so quick in the rotation and unquestioned in the landing… Shoma’s musicality speaks volumes through each push of his blades, each look and each moment he makes with the choreography. Truly world class, and more than deserving of this HUGE score — even with a bobble and missing an entire combination.

Also, Shoma’s wobble-sit on the ice and him talking about Stephane’s success in Torino made me soooo soft 🥺

Score: 204.47 for a total of 304.46 into 1st and his first Grand Prix Final 🥇!!!!!!

Program: Gravity

Wow wow wow WOW! Shoma just has such an unparalleled musicality, presence and quality to his skating. That Step Sequence is truly something special, and it’s truly a testament to the Shoma x Stephanè collab… so good (even resetting and popping the 2T to get his combo o it after the VERY deep edge landing on his 4T) and I’m so PROUD 😭😭😭

Score: 99.99 into 1st (GIVE HIM THE 100 YOU COWARDS)

GPF Torino 22 - Kaori Sakamoto

Program: Janet Jackson Medley

Kaori and Rohene must have WORKED and WORKED this program, because her musicality and attention to detail with the choreography is soooo much better than I have ever seen from her. I honestly really didn't like this program for her at the beginning of this season, and U thought it was way too much of a stretch or just another fake-cool program for her, but she has really risen to the challenge. She even had some facials TToTT !!!! I'm so proud of her, she is growing so much as a skater and performer. I can't wait to see what this ends up becoming by Worlds.

(thank you to @irrieia for correcting my error, I cannot believe that my strong association between Kaori and Benoit made me forget that this was a Rohene program, because of course it is)

Really REALLY solid performance from her today, her jumps were seriously on FIRE and she lit up the ice in the beginning AND in the step sequence. However both of those spins will really open up the door for both Mai and Loena, but should not be enough even with two clean programs from them to make a big enough difference that she couldn't make up in the free.

Score: 75.86 into 1st

Update: they gave her back a level in the review, but also what the heck judge 7, did we watch the same program? Like even if you dislike kaori’s style of skating like I used to, or really hate Janet Jackson and this style of choreography, you can’t deny that this was a great performance and is a great program, so 7s????

Program: Heaven, Fallen Angel

A shame that Loena just wasn't on today, but this should still be a solid enough performance to keep her on the podium and even in contention for a silver unless they call everything I listed above under review. Loena had a lot more power in her skating, and seemed at least a little more connected to the music than she was yesterday, however she was too tentative and unsure and lost speed going into many of those jumping passes. Hopefully this can be a learning lesson heading into the break between the GPF and Europeans where she can finally come out and ATTACK it like she truly can.

Score: 122.11 for a total of 196.35 into 2nd

Okay, this protocol is REALLY harsh… like I swear… I called 2 q or < that weren’t called, and they called the 3S which I do not believe was a full < at all… also, both with Mai and Loena they called their step-out lunges falls (and Nik too!) when they really weren’t….

Program: Euphoria soundtrack

Wow, each of those quads was so textbook. I will say, I much prefer his short (and not even considering how uncomfortable it makes me that a fresh senior is skating to the Euphoria soundtrack, even if there arent sexual lyrics) because this program just drones on and on. It is also a fairly textbook modern-quad program... and Ilia is so much better than that. Similarly to Loena yesterday, he obviously came to do a job -- and he did and should be proud. But there were no facials anywhere, the choreography was lacking compared to previous outings, and his skating skills were notably less focused than yesterday. But combined with his Short yesterday and his vastly less mature and nuanced skating skills (and complete lack of any performance quality), those PCS scores should still make it hard for Ilia to do more than bronze if everyone else skates clean.

Score: 191.84 for a total of 271.94 into 1st place

The only jump they called was the 3S. And can I say… Judge 1, “6.25 in composition” — say it louder for the people in the back.

Program: My Sweet and Tender Beast

Not perfect, but still a really strong program for Isabeau that she should really be proud of for her GPF debut. I really hope that she can be happy with herself despite the one major error and some small bobbles, despite all the unnecessary pressure that the USFS and NBC have put on her this season. Because she has such strong basics and is so DETERMINED to perform every element and step to the best that she can, and I KNOW that given the opportunity and right enviornment to grow, that she will be a true force to be reckoned with this quad.

Score: 127.97 for a total of 197.23 into 1st.
