Guy Pearce Movie Marathon: Rankings
I've watched two Guy Pearce movies a week for three weekends, and coupled with the ones I've already seen, I felt it's time to make a little list or two. (Note that I haven't seen all his movies; I would like to see more but there are a few I'm simply not interested in, despite the fact that he's now one of my favorite actors.) Movie Rankings: 1. Memento Role: Leonard Shelby, an amnesiac out for revenge on the man who killed his wife. One of my favorite movies ever, and one of the most incredible acting performances I've ever witnessed. 2. L.A. Confidential Role: Ed Exley, a straight-laced, by-the-book cop concerned with ultimate justice While the complicated plot can be hard to follow, I haven't seen a movie this suspenseful in a while. Every other scene was a "Holy SHIT!" moment. 3. The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert Role: Adam Whiteley/Felicia Jollygoodfellow, a flamboyant drag performer A very fun and surprisingly heartwarming film, though it does have a few offensive scenes. But the eye-popping costume design, catchy soundtrack, and heartfelt character interactions make up for it. 4. The King's Speech Role: Prince Edward, a prince of England who became king but abdicated the throne An excellently-made historical drama. 5. Factory Girl Role: Andy Warhol, an eccentric artist who achieved worldwide fame An interesting look into the life of Edie Sedgwick, although supposedly filled with inaccuracies. 6. Two Brothers Role: Aidan McRory, a hunter on safari A slow-paced, surprisingly dramatic movie, but the tiger cubs are adorable (and the only reason why I went to see it when I was little- I have a soft spot in my heart for it). 7. Lockout Role: Snow, a former CIA agent called upon for one last job Ridiculous action movie with a terrible script, but Guy is surprisingly convincing as the stereotypical chain-smoking, gun-toting, snarky badass. 8. Breathe In Role: Keith, a frustrated music teacher and cellist seeking meaning and inspiration from life A beautifully shot film, but a very awkward, tired plot line. 9. Hateship Loveship Role: Ken Gaunette, a single father and recovering drug addict Much too slow and quiet for my tastes; left me feeling frustrated. 10. Bedtime Stories Role: Kendall, a despicable hotel employee I haven't seen this movie in full since I saw it in theaters, and I have no desire to. 11. Results Role: Trevor, an "aging Aussie fitness instructor" as Guy has often described him, and really nothing more needs to be said on that Quirky, but utterly pointless. Character Rankings: 1. Leonard Shelby He's the one that started it all. I have to list him first. Guy Pearce brings out so many layers to his character. 2. Ed Exley Emotionless and ruthless, yet utterly endearing. I related a bit to this character. 3. Andy Warhol I just find Andy Warhol to be a fascinating person, so... 4. Snow He's a real asshole, but his sense of humor is on point. 5. Adam Whiteley Obnoxious jerk, but he has his moments. Also the least typical role I've ever seen from Guy- I can hardly believe it's him, and that's not just because he's dressing as a woman. 6. Keith On the one hand, I understood where he was coming from; on the other hand, he never thought realistically and I thought he should just get over himself. 7. Aidan McRory Probably ranked down here because I don't remember his character very well, but I know I liked his character's growth. As I remember, he's a warm person. 8. Trevor A weirdly hilarious role. Left little impression on me. 9. Ken Gaunette I would have liked him better had he shown more emotion and his character growth been more pronounced. 10. Prince Edward Came across as a selfish, rude, uncaring man. 11. Kendall Just unpleasant all the way around, form what I remember.
