GPRS is designed to provide packet-switched data services over circuit-switched networks, such as GSM. In order to use GPRS, a device must first have a SIM card installed. A SIM card is a small chip containing subscriber information. When a SIM card is inserted into a phone, it connects to the network and registers the user's account. Once registered, the user can access the Internet via their mobile phone. Data transfer rates using GPRS vary depending on the type of service being used. There are three different types of GPRS: Class 10, Class 12, and Class 18. Each class has its own set speed limit. Class 10 allows for the fastest download speeds at 56 kbps, while Class 18 allows for slower speeds at 2 Mbps. Class 12 offers intermediate speeds between the two, and allows for downloads at either 8 Kbps or 14 Kbps.
