From Skeleton Flowers to Lotus, some things never change do they?
From the first time Skeleton flower opened her eyes she was given expectations.
A self made god of the dragons who praised her.
She had to be perfect in their eyes. She had to look exactly like the art drawn of her. She had to be ready by the date stated in her so called prophecy. Everything was decided for her.
What dress she's wear. What jewels she'd be adorned with. What style her hair was in.
They poked and prodded her, caring less for how much she wished for their hands to let go of her. She hated how invasive they felt.
They praised her because she was their god. Their self made guardian. A dragon yet a goddess who could bend the land and sea as they wished. As she wished.
Skeleton flower hated those days. Such corrupt souls so demanding. Sheep wrapped around those corrupt hands. All them praising her. Demanding her to do this or that.
It had been many years since those days. Many years since she emerged from her self made cocoon to find a wasteland cookies had created.
She found peace within the dragon flower kingdom. It's rulers were dragons themselves, hiding ancient artifacts of kingdom that had once been dragon central. It still was with the number that hid among them with their families.
Even then were was arrogant cookies who saw dragons as dangerous. They were, only because they had begun to hunt them. Hunt each other. Corruption was always there. It grew and grew until even the brightest of cookies became corrupt.
The ancients were once cookies Skeleton flower admired. Strong souls entrusted by a power greater than her, though only because she was trapped among the cookies that created her, to hold such power. Power that made them rulers. Queens and kings.
Hollyberry was full of passion. Kind and caring.
Cacao was full of resolution. Strong and determined but caring in his own way.
White lily was freedom. Curious and beautiful but a tragedy in the end.
Pure vanilla was the truth. A bit foolish and messy, but with nothing to hide.
Golden cheese was abundance. A bit greedy but cared for those close to her.
Those were the type of rulers Skeleton flower wished had made her. Treated her like a daughter rather than a divine being to take and take from without giving back.
Yet even then, they fell to corruption. They disappointed her as beasts. Beasts who destroyed the very thing they had been trusted with. Who destroyed all they had once fought for.
A beast of penance thinking he was purifying with his cult? It reminded Skeleton flower all too much of her days at the wildflower kingdom.
A beast as cold as ice, freezing those who dare try to touch him.
A beast of conquest with the desire stemming from her sorrow and grief. A woman who took that and made others suffer. She held the princess of sorrows in a golden cage, vowing to never lose her after what dark enchantress had done. After what Goldenberry had done, stealing the ashes of her children before they became her personal zombies.
A beast of Sovereignty leading the once glorious faerie kingdom into a grave of darkness while telling herself this is what the faerie king would have wanted.
Then there was the beast of pride, the worst of them all. Skeleton flower's blood boiled at the mere thought of said beast. A beast who desired anything and everything relating to the dragons. Torturing the greenish red dragon and even Ember, a supposed survivor of the once great fian kingdom. Using even the scars of the past. That was just disgusting to Skeleton flower. Torture was one thing, already bad on its own, but using scars of the past was even worse. Then this cookie had the nerve to think she was deserving of dragonhood, going dragon to dragon for a chance at obtaining it. Whoever this "knight" was, she was glad they were annoying the beast.
As a dragon herself, with many scars of the past. With many of her temples and stories still standing. Dragonberry terrified her. The team of cookies who'd find every last detail of anyone she desired terrified Skeleton flower even more. Quickly she stored her usual mixture in extra bottles, drinking one of them to hide the clear white of her eyes and marks.
With the beast of pride and the ongoing war, that mixture had become more important than ever. She remembered it as if her life depended on it. Which now, it did. Five one bottle of water to ten blueberries ratio. Water made her eyes and marks translucent. In the rain she'd be fully translucent. The blueberries turned her eyes and marks blue, enough to pass it off as a tattoo and not the glorious white marks of a self made god.
"Shit!" She heard Grace ward curse, "Their back!"
"Chocolate Glaze is already here!" She heard his wife shout, "We need to focus on the battle!"
"Your right" Grace ward sighed before shouting, "Charge!"
Soldiers all in dragon scale with weapons meant to handle the strong attacks of Dragonberry's soldiers ran in front of king Grace ward and queen Blue honeywart.
Skeleton flower grabbed her basket of potions that clattered against each other and ran into battle. Her feet tapped against the ground with each step. Swords clattered as they touched each other. The battlefield was full of grunts and banter, but the screams were noticeable among all that. She knew the drill: run to the screams, save the cookie, heal them and they'd continue fighting. As much as they should rest, with the beast of conquest they had no time to stay still. Her many arms would grab those injured or slow and turn them into gold. Gold statues that would sometimes attack.
A solider screamed, and she ran toward them. Swords slashed against her dress, something she'd stitch up later. Blood splattered on the skirt as it was spilled.
She grabbed a cloth and shoved it into the wound, giving them a potion which they drank without asking.
"Huh, you feel familiar." Dragonberry mused with a smile.
Skeleton flower jolted but signaled the solider to leave, picking up her potions and holding them away from the queen who'd do anything to get her hands on draconic potions.
"I'm the medic of this war. I am not one of your concerns." She hissed.
This only interested the queen, "Those marks look rather similar to Skeleton flower, don't they?"
Her heart beat faster in her chest.
"My name is Blue lotus." She replied, sliding earth in front of Celestial cheese.
The beast of conquest was interrupted for a second, hissing to herself and destroying the rock Skeleton flower had uprooted. Soon Tar came in with her spears and distracted the beast of pride in front of Blue lotus.
"Go! I'll keep her busy!" Tar shouted, commanding as always.
Skeleton flower nodded and ran off, drinking another bottle of her mixture as she ran around healing soldiers. Such a battle would run on for hours as the children of the ancients fought those who had once been their parents. Though Tar nor Golden vanilla showed much remorse or guilt like Strawberry buttercream and Glaze did.
Swords clashed. Blood spilled. Soldiers screamed. Skeleton flower merely ran off instinct and protocol. Glaze and Grace ward shouted orders while NC. Blueberry commanded her spies. Skeleton uprooted rock that was destroyed in the mist of battle with no one batting an eye. She knew the watchful eye of Dragonberry was on her. She knew the risks.
But what is safety if clouded with guilt of those who cannot have what you have? What is health if the soldiers bleed and die without you there? What is a miracle if you don't stop something so preventable?
As much as she hated her power, she would admit it had its uses. She watched each solider she had saved by risking her own safety fight with the same determination as last time. They put their own lives at risk more than she did. Every day for Glaze, Blue honeywart, and Grace ward was a day they were in danger. At risk. All because of corrupted greed and desire manifested within cookies that were supposed to be glorious heroes. The ones who would be fighting such a war yet were now the ones causing it.
And so, she continued to run until her feet hurt. Even if her bones broke she continued to run. No matter how much blood was on her. No matter how torn her outfit became. She ran into and out of battle with potions to heal soldiers that continued to fight. She continued to use her powers as more and more eyes linked her movements to the rising of rock.
She was not Skeleton flower, a god full of glory. She was Blue lotus, a cookie who fought no matter how much she hurt or what was broken within her body. She just kept on going.
She would not sit by and hide like she did those years ago. Not when those she cared for where there.
All she had was one wish.
To see Columbine again. To know in this mess, the one who loved her through her days of godhood was ok.
(Wonder who Columbine is *laughs in writer*
