Character Development: Day 4

What are some of your character’s hobbies? What do they do with their time? Grace is a tinkerer, spending time working on her turrets. She has a thumper named Kassandra and is currently in the process of a flame turret. This is coupled with her love of books, evident by the pile in her room. Grace enjoys reading as much as she does putting things together. Puzzles solving is another hobby of hers, and one major reason why she was a good Seraph.

Grace spends a majority of her time these days in a workshop or back at the Durmond Hall, below Kormir Highway, catching up on books she had missed the last few months.

She would like to begin Horse Riding again, however without cash on hand, she’s been unable to pay for her trainer.

Favorite color? Grace loves any color that falls between the blue/green spectrum. They remind her of the ocean. Gold is a close second.

Favorite music artists? Books or authors? Actors? Grace is particularly fond of the Musician’s Guild of Tyria. Anytime they have a showing in Divinity’s Reach, she shows up to listen to them. It was because of this group that she picked up the Harp. (She’s not very good at it.)

As far as books go, she’s a hard core fan of Daphne Danvers by Lady E. C. Rynne. She owns all the books up to Corporal’s Command. She has been dying to get a hold of Cursed Sigil, but again, without cash, she’s been unable to. It’s also not the sort of book carried in Durmond Hall, so she has been very much out of luck.

As far as Actors go, she’s a fan of the Voice’s group when they roll into Divinity’s Reach, putting on the most spectacular plays. She heard they were due some months ago, but never found them showing up. She’s since been waiting impatiently for another show.

Political stance? Are they active in politics or do they not care? Grace cares very much for the current political movement in Tyria. She attends the Open Sessions as if she were going to a sporting event. Her opinions on the Ministers vary from mild approval to outright disgust. She’s a very opinionated person, unafraid to enter into a heated debate.

This doesn’t mean she wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to punch a Minister, if given the chance.

What are some of their pet peeves? Nails being dragged over stone or any other surface to emit an irritable scritch noise. Someone touching her hair without her explicit permission. Someone hugging her without her permission. Essentially anything done to her person without permission.

And crying. She cannot handle crying.

What sort of gifts do they like? Money. Firewater. Books. You, naked, in her bed, with booze, money and a book. Ascalonian cigars. Nice slacks. Boots that can handle shit weather. Money. Tack for her horse. Mostly just money.

What is their favorite time of day? Favorite weather? Season? Grace loves early morning, just before the sun rises and the earth is muted in gray tones. She feels this is the best representation of Tyria. Her favorite weather is rain. The sound of it is relaxing, having sex in it is relaxing, reading beside a window during rain is relaxing. Just rain. Season would be Spring, for both points before.

Where do they like to spend their time? Truthfully? Home. She would much rather spend her time home with a pile of books. Unfortunately Durmond Hall doesn’t allow her to take the books out of there, so she’s forced to go sit in their hall to read. This is alright, though, as the Hall is quiet, allowing her to relax enough to find some corner to slouch in.

Favorite food? Favorite drink? Hot drinks, cold drinks, or alcohol? Grace’s favorite food is Curry Butternut Squash. Her favorite drink would be dolyak milk, followed by black tea. Her favorite alcoholic drink is actually Brackwater Ale, but trying to afford that is another story. So she sticks with cheap Firewater.

Favorite animal? Grace doesn’t exactly like animals. However she does hold a strong respect for cats. She is also fond of horses, they may be growing on her.

Do they have any pets? Do they want any? Grace owns one Cornucopian Cobb named Odessa. Odessa is currently in Alurien Belakov’s care.

What relaxes them? Rain. A good book. A warm body. Being in control.

Do they have any bad habits? Sleeping with people she barely knows. Accepting drinks from people she barely knows. Allowing her emotions to dictate over logic. Tempermental impulses. Smokes cigars frequently. Violent, prone to getting into fist fights. May be interested in drugs.

Character Development: Day 3

Choose a different time period and describe what your character would have been like in that time period.

The year is 1997. Grace Alexander is a high school drop out. She’s attending community college, working the front desk at the local law enforcement precinct. She had wanted to attempt the police academy, but a previous record involving a few muggings have her stuck working herself into good standing. She was living in the streets of Seattle up until a week ago, when she finally accepted a place at the half-way home. It’s not a real place, but it’s better than a blanket on pavement.

Her hair is very long, tumbling down her back in a mess of ringlet curls. She keeps it piled over one side of her head. Some days it’s stringier than others, showers not happening every single day. A child of the 80′s into the 90′s, she was unable to let go of the punk era, ending up melding into the grunge scene only too easily.

This involves dark lipstick, matte colors, simple smoked out eyes. She wears thick combat boots stolen from an officers locker with socks stuffed in the ends to make them fit her feet proper. Ankle length black skirt, white t-shirts with the sleeves cut off tucked in. Flannel around the waist. Chokers and thick bracelets.

She hosts a selection of cassette tapes carried around in her backpack. Of these would be Pink Floyd, Alice in Chains, Candlebox, Tad, 7 Year Bitch, Foo Fighters and her new favorite: Murder City Devils. Not all of these can be promised they were gotten legally, possibly stolen out of peoples bags, mix tapes from friends.

Living and breathing Seattle air, she has the West Coast hospitality of cold distance and indifference to another. She doesn’t have to act cool, she knows she is. Sunglasses are her wall to the world. Cigarettes always on hand, needle scars line the inside of her elbows.

She knows how lucky she is to have made it to twenty-eight.

Character Development: Day 2

How do they usually dress? Blouses with loose sleeves, tied tight around the wrists, allowing free movement. Fitted pants, preferably suede, or leather of some sort. Boots that can withstand mud and long miles of walking. Gloves with braced knuckles. Holsters to seat her pistols, and a long thick coat. Layers can be shed in the event of a heat, but there’s no way to add layers you don’t have in the event of a cold wind.

What do they wear to sleep? Naked if there’s a warm body nearby.

Do they wear jewelry? Gold chain bracelets, rope ‘belts’ in case she needs a rope. She wears her house ring on a chain under her shirt. Her ears were pierced at one time, but they’ve healed over since.

Is there anything about their appearance they wish they could change? She wants smaller tits. It’s a pain smashing the ones she has down under cloth bandages to keep them from getting in her way during a fight. Otherwise, if she wants to change her appearance, she’s learned the art of make-up while in hiding.

How would they look as the opposite sex? Same height. Broad shouldered, no doubt as built as she is now. She’d sport the Mortellaro mustache, slicked back hair that tries to escape from being so curled. No doubt still using make up to contour his face. Think Disney Villain.

What do they smell like? Why? Gunpowder. Lavender. She uses soaps that are made with Lavender. Her work with her weapons ensures she constantly smells like gunpowder, it’s stuck to her skin, hair, clothes.

Do they have an accurate mental picture of their appearance (how they see themselves versus how the world sees them)? Grace hates herself. When she looks in the mirror, she doesn’t see a beautiful woman, but some face she’s slowly growing accustomed to. She prefers the look of her face covered in make up, over how she looks without it. It’s a shield to the outside world, protecting her freckles, her small scars. Her imperfections.

While others may compliment her beauty, she internalizes it as ‘I love your shield.’ They don’t know her real face, and from that, she only feels she can be beautiful with her ‘shield’ up.

Disfigurements | None currently. Scars | She has various scars, however most of them are mental. Her current largest, visible scar is the slowly healing gunshot wound as well as runes once cut into her skin, sitting like small white lines in her skin, telling a story of a time she was once subjected to necromancy many times over.
