Testing out die-lines + different packaging styles

This is my first attempt at re-developing the packaging from the original. I wanted to have the 4 sides drop down once you lifted the lid and have the instructions on the sides. I also wanted to show the patterns on the side + have the “Māori activities game - hīnaki edition” under the whītiki logo.

But I felt it was still too big and tall so I want to adjust the height

Here is the front page of my PDF portfolio. I decided to use a photograph of me to capture my love for photography but also real life visual of my identity instead of illustration.

Advert Designs

Initial String Branding Advert Design Ideas

Thinking about my advert design, I have made bullet points on where I see my string brand to be advertised around. Because string is mostly found in dollar stores, warehouses, other craft supplies retail shops, and some supermarkets, this might be a good idea to start. Post shops is most likely a location to buy the envelope from and therefore is another place to advertise the string brand around. The form of this could be in large hanging signs over aisles, digital signs displayed on monitors or footpath signs.

Spring Couplet Final Design

Here is the final look at the spring couplet design. I have used the patterns/illustrations from the original design but I did not cover up most of the page because I wanted it to have space like on the traditional Chinese spring couplet designs.

Final Packaging Material + String Material

Here are some photographs of the finalised print on 250 gsm paper so it does not wear down easily and show white crease marks like it does on lighter gsm paper. The string material I used is commonly used for making necklaces, bracelets and is strong enough to last a while.

Inside Design For Spring Couplet

For my spring couplet design, I have used the handwritten Chinese character that Ting Li created because I find that it works best with the traditional but contemporary idea I’m sticking with based on feedback. I have made this element work with my design by adding bevel and emboss with accompanying text saying ‘Happy Chinese New Year!’ at the bottom for consistency of the brand product name at the back of the envelope.
