Relating to the lecture received last class, drawing on the symptoms/ signs of PTSD. Although this is not the same as when adults experience trauma, it still is under the umbrella of stresses.
As humans, anything that makes us uncomfortable can cause us to be in distress. Babies are often in this state because they are still figuring the world out and aren’t familiar with anything except their parents. As parents, the job is to keep the baby happy and healthy as much as possible but there are cases where this doesn’t always happen. When the parents are also in distress, the babies are in distress. Babies pick up on the differences in their primary caregiver’s actions and emotions. For example, by 6 months babies are able to distinguish between happy and angry body language. As a result babies can become distressed when caregivers become emotionally unresponsive and develop abnormal stress response systems. Although babies aren’t sitting, rocking back and forth like Stewie is upon his new discovery, they do show signs of distress which can affect them later on in life
