The two finest men I have ever seen play Mr. Sherlock Holmes on television. Jeremy Brett's portrayal of Holmes was the one I watched in my youth, when I first started reading the Sherlock Holmes mysteries. And Benedict Cumberbatch is the Holmes I watch now on television, either at home or with friends when I am away at college. Both of these men, in their own way, capture the spirit of Holmes, like lighting in a bottle, for all the rest of the world to marvel and gap at.
