thinking about the Grandis ...
and I'm convinced Verso painted them for Alicia. Just replayed through Act 2 and I was surprised when she mentions she too used to play in his canvas with Verso; Clea's fingerprints are all over the world in a way Alicia's aren't, but the Grandis's quiet nature and love of poetry are very reminiscent of her. "Grandis" also means "grown", which I think is a hint that Verso painted them when he was older than he did the Gestrals and Esquie. I don't think the Gestrals' exuberant nature would mesh too well with Alicia, so I can picture him painting these gentle giants who have verse contests for his shy, quiet little sister who shared his interest for words and poetry.
