I changed my header photo to my grandfather leading our herd bull back home after he hopped the fence. I think it captures the importance of docility as a herd trait, and I think it’s kind of mystical—being a foggy morning. My Granpaw is one of my favorite people on this planet, and was my start in wanting to learn more about agriculture. Son of a coal miner, he was a medic during the Korean war, and was also an active coal miner and farmer when he returned home. He owned a bar at one point, and I have learned so much from him, both handy things and things I can improve upon later. I’m getting a little sappy, but he and my grandmother are two of the most influential people in my life.
