As far as meeting places go, corner street coffee shops were not the greatest, and she should know better considering last time she was almost caught. 

Still, she didn’t have much of a choice, not really, not when all she had gotten as notice was a neatly hand written letter with vague details that had been slipped underneath her door that morning. 

"I wasn’t sure you’d come. Not after what happened last time."

Raina flashed him a polite smile. “I’m full of surprises. Speaking of which, it’s polite to offer your date something to drink.”

"This isn’t a date." 

"Play along, dear.“

Ward faltered for a moment, staring at Raina as she sat down in the chair across from him before finally standing up. “What would you like?”

"Surprise me."

Five minutes and one green tea frappuccino later, they were back to where they began. 

"So, if this is not a date, then what is it?"

"I think it would benefit both of us if we joined forces, for the time being, at least."

Raina smirked around the draw between her lips. “So, it is a date.”

river/doctor + teachers au? uwu

River is the well loved art teacher who has been around for so long that even the parents of students remember being taught by her. John Smith who is more commonly known as “The Doctor” due to his constant mentioning of his PHD in physics has been working there for two years now. The Doctor is fawned over by all of the older female (and some of the male) students and a lot of his colleagues have fallen in love with his charm. 

The two of them are introduced by head of science and one of River’s closest, Jack Harkness. Most of the teachers go to the local pub on a Friday evening after work and one day Jack invites The Doctor. When The Doctor sees River for the first time wearing something other than a paint splattered smock, he begins to develop a crush on her. When Jack introduces them properly, they end up spending the rest of the night talking to each other and getting a little flirty. 

River doesn’t think anything of the flirty relationship they begin to have, because he’s known as being a bit of a flirt - there’s (untrue of course) rumours all about the school that he’s having sex with Mrs Williams-Pond, Miss Oswald and Miss Jones. The Doctor doesn’t think much of it because he thinks River is way out of his league - he’s dorky, gangly and wears bowties, and she’s… perfect.

Yet every Friday, they get together and drink one too many red wines and blur the lines between friendship and something more. One night The Doctor offers to walk River home after she insisted on walking instead of getting a taxi, which was when she kissed him. He ends up spending the night, but the next morning, they decide they have to keep it a big secret from everyone because it’s unprofessional to be sleeping with your co-worker.

River tells Jack, and The Doctor tells Amy, and so Jack and Amy work together to get them to admit that they actually have feelings and aren’t just sleeping together. Amy and Jack make them go on unexpected dates by bailing on the pub, or inviting them all to an art exhibition and cancelling at last minute. The fact that they love each other becomes so obvious, yet neither of them wants to admit it because they don’t think that the other one feels the same.

The Doctor finally tells her the truth by turning the school assembly hall into a planetarium with an overhead projector. He launches into a cheesy speech about how art and science combine - the patterns you see when you look in a microscope, the beauty of the human anatomy, and of course the solar system. River confesses her love back, they make out under the ‘stars’ and decide to make their relationship official from Monday morning.
