Holy shit graphgear 500 is so heavy damn

Review – Pentel GraphGear 500 Mechanical Pencil
Now, I’m a cartoonist, and when I am penciling and there is no wood pencil to be found (as there unfortunately often isn’t these days), I do use a mechanical pencil. But which one do I use? There are many “alright” and “good” mechanical pencils out there for very cheap prices. Well, I was looking for one a little better, and I found the Pentel GraphGear 500. Let’s check it out.

Pentel Graphgear 500 [PG515; Old Model]
The Graphgear 500 [PG515] is a moderately inexpensive drafting pencil, listed on amazon.com [PG525, the newer model] starting at $2.10.
In short: Cheap, sturdy, simple, standard drafting pencil.
In depth: The Graphgear 500 I own is pictured below. The lead indicator / end cap has pros and cons. The lead indicator [3H to B] slider itself is sturdy and won't roll about itself, but as an end cap, it comes off moderately easily with respect to other mechanical pencils such as the Pentel Forte. This doesn't detract from the pencil's performance itself.
The pencil's body itself has two main materials: plastic throughout the top, and [what I perceive to be] aluminum at the knurled grip area. This makes it very well balanced when holding it as if you are writing. By making the pencil heavier at the bottom, the overall writing experience is more 'sturdy,' i.e. it's easier to draw straight lines, or be more precise with a heavier pencil weighted at the bottom. As a plus, body's words, "Graphgear 500 PG51[3,5,7,9] 0.[3,5,7,9] Pentel" clearly define the pencil's make and model [important when distinguishing between old and new models!] The lines which accent the grip bring out [dare I say] multiple shades of grey along the pencil's design, which accentuates the appeal despite only using one main color. The tip is non-removable, but in a way, this also protects the mechanisms within the pencil. The tip itself has a very chic design, which makes the 4 millimeter lead guiding sleeve seem less...fragile.
The pencil dispenses a moderately variable amount of lead, usually around 2/3rds of a millimeter of lead each time.
Overall: The pencil's effective design, both simple and sleek, combined with simplicity and functionality create a wonderful drafting pencil for those who don't feel like spending obscene amounts of money!
