So, my android tablet (a Samsung Galaxy I bought a few years ago with my tax refunds) is dying. It's currently at 50% battery and refusing to charge. Sometimes if I wiggle the cord right I can get it to charge a little bit. Clearly it needs replaced. Looking to see if anyone has recommendations on what to replace it with.
I mainly use it for phone and texting (I do not have a sim card, I use google voice while connected to wifi for calls and texts. I'd replace google voice if I could A: Keep the same number and B: Find another free voip service. I could probably do the second with a little effort but I'm not sure the first is even possible), watching videos, internet browsing, reading e-books, and occasionally light gaming.
The one that's dying has a very large screen that I like when watching videos even though it makes carrying it awkward. Another tablet with a large screen would be preferred but is not strictly necessary.
My finances are limited so I'm looking for the best balance between "Will likely take longer than a year before it starts to die." and "I can actually afford to buy it."
I am not interested in anything using ios, and honestly at this point would prefer an alternative to android as well. I'm not sure any of the alternative operating systems sell their own tablets or if they have any that are affordable if they do. I think my preferences for OS are in no particular order Graphine, Lineage, and Linux but I'm open to anything privacy focused that doesn't limit what programs I can install on the device I paid good money for and theoretically own. When offering recommendations please state what alternative operating systems can be installed on the device if it doesn't already come with such a system pre-installed.
