@fullofcake submitted: A mantis I found today sticking his little leggy out. He only had one of his front legs
Idk what type of mantis he (or she) is but I thought it was cute.
This is in North Florida btw
Looks like a grass mantis! Are you sure about the front leg? I think I see two tarsi there, and these dudes are known for holding both forelimbs forward and together so it only looks like one. More twig-like that way.
I can’t believe my bf found a grass mantis and DIDNT catch it for me!!! 🥺
It’s the only other mantis in my area I’ve yet to find. Look how slender it is. It’s also the only one suspected to be parthenogenic. I’m so sad 😭
Made some smol friends on my trip to FL. Learned that horseshoe crabs in hand move like tiny roombas in a new room, just pick a direction and if that doesn't work, try another. (I put them down quick so they could get back to their business, same with hermit friend.)
Thesprotia graminis - Male
Ided by helpful people on buggide for me
Common name grass mantis, he was on my shed havin a fun wiggle
Schizocephala bicornis, Indian grass mantis. An insanely cool and weird and all round amazing species of mantis. I’ve tried keeping small nymphs 2 times before which didnt end well unfortunately. Hopefully with this more established female nymph i’ll have more luck, they really are awesome, crazy thinly built.
Schizocephala bicornis (Indian Grass Mantis) (4th instar) por Andrew Mitchell Por Flickr: First time i've posted a shot of these awesome guys :) Just look at that face.....rather odd even for a Mantis :D Gotta love it though!
Schizocephala Bicornis a truly bizarre looking species.
