Sometimes you work hard to make a home for a story. You spend so much time designing the framework, picking out setpieces and setting up the characters just so. The story needs to be lured into staying, bribed with promises of a good meal and just the right atmosphere.

And other times, a new story breaks down your doors with no warning. It already has a suitcase full of characters and plots, and you have no choice but to let it move in and enjoy the stay.

I have just been struck by the latter.
