the weather in the northern hemisphere is beginning to warm up, the sun is shining brighter, & the wildlife is returning to their boisterous selves. during this time, a lot of us love to clean! below are some tips, from my family's traditions to yours, for incorporating witchcraft into your spring cleaning. enjoy!
👁 sweep the floor with salt. banish negativity & all that jazz with a simple floor sweep. before sweeping through your whole house (from top to bottom, always towards the front door until you can sweep the mess right over the threshold), make a simple dry spell mixture. your favourite salt, along with herbal additives like dried rosemary, dried sage, cloves, dried oregano, or some combination. stir it up with your intent in mind, to cleanse your house and protect it! stirring counter-clockwise (or widdershins) helps to banish. pour it over your floor bit by bit, sweep it up & out the door!
👁 wash those windows well. windows always could use a shine, especially with sunshine coming in! use some homemade four thieves vinegar, used in france & french diaspora areas since the middle ages. combine lavender, rosemary, mint, sage, marjoram, hyssop, and garlic with vinegar, letting marinate for about ten days. after cleaning your windows with standard cleaning product, put a few drops of this vinegar on your windowsill to keep the nasties out!
👁 make your house smell nice. this one is a little different from banishing, this will be summoning! you want those good energies, so attract them! set up a simmer pot on your stove. put some water in a small pot, and add lemon slices (purification, happiness), rosemary (protection, health), and thyme (strength, courage) and let the pot simmer. your house will smell amazing, and you'll feel even better!
there are many more things you can do, but these are just some of the easiest, cheapest & quickest things we do every spring.
