Dark Gravity Saix “Blackbolt”
by Maethius
Finished up my new poseable Gravity Saix!~ It’s such a gorgeous zoid and its sad what wasted potential the original stock one was.
On DeviantART
Finally got a few long standing zoid projects completed so I was able to work on this today. Been wanting to make a poseable Gravity Saix and I’ll be painting it steampunk like that other Gravity Saix I did. Honestly didn’t take long at all. 3-4 hours top. I just added some distance between the fore and hind legs to achieve a more cheetah look.
Old Zoids photos #34: Gul Tiger As you can see, I was going through a gradient/tinted phase. (There were several more in the folder...) Demantis pilot makes Gul Tiger even more awesomely bright—and mine eats the other pilots. I got my Gul Tiger prebuilt a long time before the rerelease—it had been glued together so the head was impossible to separate (those eye pieces are pretty escape-prone, but sheesh), and the motor had fallen over. Luckily, the "put battery in, wait, and wiggle legs to unstick things" trick worked, and Gul Tiger gurgled back to life in my hands. Experiences like that are (one reason of many) why I love the motorized Zoids. I...still need the rerelease one sometime because fans. But I'm attached to this one.
Old Zoids photos #26: Gravity Saix, mostly with panel lines I should really paint some black and silver details on this thing too to give it some depth/appearance of layered parts—though again, no more plated silver Gundam Marker :(. Anyone got a rec for a chisel tip paint marker with a really brilliant shine? The pearl silver Gundam Marker I have isn't shiny enough and comes off too readily. Gravity Saix looks so much better detailed, but even the stock kit gains some better looks if you turn the sword missile around to sit across its back more like Murasame's sword. If you don't want to detail and don't like bright orange, the Fuzors one is a richer orange metal flake and looks nicer right out of the box. The piece on the regular one's bum in the one really old pic is from the Flexible Booster CP, I think. I put it there so it'd have somewhere to go and left it there. I just looked—it's still there. Man, I remember when the prototype for Gravity Saix showed up on ZoidFans. iirc I thought (the group thought?) it looked a bit like Deathcat. And with that and the mention of a mailing list in the first place, I have now rather dated myself.
Okay, I might bleed orange. Just a little.
[Images: Assorted half-finished Zoids sketches. A leaping Gravity Saix holding its sword, two Liger Zero armor side views, multiple smaller Jägers, and a Kingbaron.] Just to prove I haven't been totally lazy, a bunch of incomplete robot cats. I might try to finish at least the Baron and/or Saix, but it's more likely I'll forget them—so to Tumblr they go!
