90 Degrees
While electropop does take a lot of pointers from the 80's period, many musicians there mold them into something distinct. Ladytron, for instance, do sound like a typical retro group, though their whole project presents them as the modern version of the 80's with the contemporary production touches. Mind you, this description would fit many musicians, yet what makes Ladytron so intriguing might be the fact they use the electronica of the already mentioned era as a start, they don't transform these soundscapes into their goal. I would dare to suggest they continue, where a multitude of the 80's players and their followers ended, they represent where the tones would have gone, had they got a chance to develop them further.
Ace Of Hz by Ladytron from Gravity The Seducer (2011)
Ace on an unbroken line Ace of hearts Mariner of the time Another ace of hearts Sweet possessions of cards That you take From each victoria box That you break
You break the ace of hearts But break too much Hearts that cannot be refused On your watch Break the ace of hearts
You should draw closer to me Ace of hearts Aces among the team Another ace of hearts Hearts to make yourself free Yes you will Make free of the cities Where time stands still
You break the ace of hearts But break too much The bombs that cannot be defused By your touch Break the ace of hearts Break aces of hearts Break all aces of hearts
Mirage by Ladytron from Gravity The Seducer (2011)
Footsteps cross the schoolyard, Holding hands with a mirage. You don’t listen, You do not exist.
Image of a suggestion, The broken ball in question. Through shattered mirror, Enter caravan.
New mirage, mirage It seems to me. Or maybe stop feeling You do not exist.
Train tracks through the desert Sad eyes, little puppet You don’t listen, You do not exist.
Happy not to notice. The room retracts the focus, Where you cannot see. Reflections from within.
New mirage, mirage It seems to me. Or maybe stop seeing. You do not exist.
Or maybe stop feeling.
Holding hands with a mirage
