2024 -> 2025
Relatively recently, a UbiSoft press kit circa 1999 was found. As Ubisoft published Evolution: The World of Sacred Device in the west, it contains artwork used for the game's promotion.
This includes certain pieces of art that were rarely released in good quality or on their own.
Dreamcast Magazine has 3 Evolution comics focused on “fake” Linears, so here’s the trilogy all at once.
A bit of fanart on the Evolution 2 site spotlights all three versions of Linear.
For my first post of 2020, have this Evolution “Millennium Special” telephone card, which is now on it’s way to being 20 years old.
When I get a chance, I’ll scan the postcard one that came with the Japanese strategy guide and upload it if it’s clearer/better quality.
Evolution: The World of Sacred Device had a comic that ran in Dreamcast Magazine in Japan. It’s mostly a gag comic with the occasional adult/black moment (like Gre having a nightmare of Mag losing Linear to Eugene and hanging himself) but this particular comic stands out as it appears to be a flashback to when Linear arrived at the Launcher residence (which is referenced in-game, but not seen).
Continuing from my last post, here’s some more Evolution concept art. The first is, what appears to be, Pannam Town during development (looking very different than the final version), the Crown Prince/Kronprinz and a scene of the Launcher clan being chased by an airship. Whilst the Crown Prince seems close to the final game, the other two images are quite different in comparison.
Check my Links page to see them at Gaming Intelligence Agency’s (archive) site.
An excerpt from the Evolution: The World of Sacred Device dev diary (which, along with the rest of the original website, is still up on Sting's official site).
Using online translators, it seems that Gre Nade, Mag's butler was modeled after "the butler from the overseas program "Bat Man"" - aka Alfred Pennyworth (or rather just "Alfred" as "Pennyworth" wouldn't be introduced until after Batman '66).
Comparing them, you can see a vague resemblance
