Now I’m actually sort of obsessed with J/H, thank you for convincing me! The more I think about it, the more they start to remind me of Sheldon and Penny in a way, although I’d argue that Penny is the Hyde and Sheldon is the Jackie. Sure, Penny is a very feminine women and a former cheerleader to boot, and sure, Sheldon is a very intelligent, reclusive, snarky man who generally considers himself to be above everyone else’s bullshit. However, Penny is also very tough, cool, streetwise, relaxed, and gives great advice. Sheldon is shill, bossy, picky, and easily offended to the point where his friends can barely tolerate him at times.
I can actually really see this! I can really see those similarities between Penny and Hyde you said. And, yes, Penny was a cheerleader but she was also a bit of a dirtbag burnout like Hyde (think of that flashback episode where she's doing a pregnancy test and is clearly stoned off her face). She's also basically a practitioner of Zen, especially with Sheldon whom she so very rarely loses her temper with and has endless patience for, even while rolling her eyes at him. She's queen of "whatever". Penny's very pretty, but I wouldn't call her traditionally feminine. She fishes, loves football, is a crack shot, rules at paint ball, gets rid of the spiders for the boys. She's also great with cars - like Hyde.
And, yes, Sheldon is whiny and shrill 😅 He's very slender and quite feminine in some his mannerisms. And he is also very aware of his own excellence and worth like Jackie, to the point of arrogance and annoying others, but with surprising moments of perceptiveness and great generosity. There is also that insecurity/uncertainty underneath the arrogance in both of them. In Jackie, it keeps her tied to the perpetually cheating Kelso. In Sheldon, it keeps him tied to the friends who ruined his academic reputation and set his career back with fake findings. Despite both deserving better.
