#393: This page made me feel better about asking so many people for so much help. Shoutout to Dean Natalie Friedman and Professor David Bayer for being my saviors.
#362: This past winter, all I had was a jacket and ballet flats because I couldn't afford actual winter clothes. One of my professors in the Barnard English department realized that I never wore a coat, even when we went on our class outing off-campus. That professor GAVE ME a gift-card to buy a coat and winter boots, and has been my point of reference whenever I am having trouble with my other classes. Thank you. I appreciate you way more than you'll ever know <3
199: Shoutout to Professor Guy Cohen in the Stats department, who instead of making us buy the newest edition of the textbook, lets us use the old version(which can be found for 10$ on amazon!) Thanks for being sensitive to our needs!
#166: My first semester was the hardest time of my life. I contemplated leaving school multiple times. On the day I planned to call my mom to tell her I wanted to quit, Kimberly Marten paused her Int. Pol. class to address all of us. It was the most amazing moment of my time here so far. She looked directly at us, talking to the first gen students, and told us we were worth it. We could do it. It's hard, but we're here for a reason. We can compete. I didn't know how much I needed that. Thank you.
#140: I used to be so angry that Columbia students didn't realize how good they had it, until I heard Gulati's last lecture. He tells stories about the world being a shitty place, and encourages people not to contribute to it. Everybody's mind was blown. I was amazed that this was news to everyone. His point was insubstantial to me, but he presented it in a way that well-off students would listen to. He didn't bash them for their good upbringing; how could I do the same when its not their fault?
#106: I remember sitting in CC and always having a different version of the books being used in class. The professor had students begin to use paragraph introductory sentences so that "we" could all find the quotations. It was all for me. Thank you to that one professor who understood my issues and reached out to make me feel comfortable. you are a gem
I thought about skipping class so I could sleep in, but then I was like no I wanna go because I don't want to miss the lecture. THAT IS WHAT SCHOOL IS SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE. Do why do so many professors take pride in being horrible?
