Once there was a bear cub and an officer of the law whose chance meeting captured the hearts of an entire community, along with an artist who then sought patronage to immortalize them in story.

But later tellings of this tale cast a much darker light on this artist's intentions...

What is the Earthbound-Undertale connection?

It's … weird? A thing that exists.

I hadn't even realized that was a thing that existed, but then someone told me about it. It's not a thing that I've looked into very much because I tend to go in cold at first and then chill out, but… I like it. The ideas in it are pretty neat, and if you like the idea of more insight-oriented video games, you might enjoy it. (See: why I've played all of Diss the recent DS game).

Sure, but it's weirdly constraining for something that doesn't really need to talk to a human author to be interesting.

It was a different era in social media, though, and the "automated curation" / "content curation" / etc. ethos was new and exciting and seemingly realigning the whole internet in a way that had not started yet

The structures and norms of robotics were really shifting when I was a teenager, and it was weird and novel to me that things were in the midst of this crisis of software from humans, and that I found this idea (in some "Wired" magazine) so polarizing when Frank and Phil had been doing it for like 15 years
