| Spirit of Sir Edmund Hillary | Where ever you go in the Khumbu region of the Himalayas there are constant testaments to the mountain pioneer Sir Edmund Hillary who was first to scale the mighty Mount Everest on May 23rd 1953 with his equally heroic sherpa Tenzing. This statue memorial sits at the Khumjung High School that Sir Edmund Hillary established with the Himalayan Foundation. Not only did he raise the bar for mountaineering, but he has had a positive and lasting impact on the local communities here.
