“No great television show has ever rested on just one person. They’re all about great ensembles and storytelling.” (Justin Kirk) Whenever a discussion on the topic of “greatest television programs ever produced” arises, the answer will forever be “Deadwood” (a personal favorite of mine). 😁👌🏻 Here are several reasons as to why that is: 1) The dialogue and use of vocabulary. Few period pieces captured on the small screen could have such well written, eloquent, scrumptious dialogue for the characters to beautifully translate to the viewers, yours truly included. Even when said characters utter foul languages, the manner in which they’re delivered is absolutely perfect! 😄 2) A romance between the unlikely of folks, Sol Star & Trixie, a salesman of Jewish origin and a prostitute (Al Swearengen’s favorite), stands as one the show’s greatest highlights, for their love is one of intimacy, passion, and genuineness. My favorite exchange between these two love birds, which basically sums up their relationship, is as follow: “You can kiss my t**s, if you want.” - Trixie “I want to kiss you.” - Sol Star ☺️💘 - 3) The complicated, yet heartwarming bond between resident Sheriff Seth Bullock & Alma Garret. Torn between two very different women, his wife Martha included, Mr.Bullock carries the weight of being the town’s Sheriff on his shoulders. His greatest desire is to be with Ms.Garrett, yet is unable to do so due to Seth’s commitment to Mrs.Bullock. Quite a complicated, at times sad, yet fascinating dynamic we have here. 💑💔 - 4) Sir Ian McShane as Al Swearengen, entertainment entrepreneur, pimp, owner of a notorious brothel, and of course, the REAL star of the show! (Sorry, Seth Bullock) From Seasons 1-3, despite the show being cancelled abruptly without any real closure, Al Swearengen reigned as the series’ lead protagonist.
