New York City: Por la Ruta de Che - Report from Delegation to Revolutionary Cuba
Saturday, November 11 - 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Solidarity Center, 147 W. 24 Street, 2nd Floor, Manhattan
Hosted by Workers World Party
Join Workers World Party to hear firsthand the successes of the Cuban Revolution. Socialist Cuba has endured hurricanes, decades of CIA plots, invasions, the tragic loss of Fidel Castro, and the longest U.S. blockade in history. Join us as we welcome revolutionaries from a two-week trip to Cuba. A New York delegation from Workers World Party, GRebels and others traveled to Cuba to participate in events of “Por la Ruta de Che" (Che’s Path). The delegates learned about Che Guevara as well as assisted volunteers from all over the world with hurricane recovery.
October 9, 2017 marked the 50th anniversary of the death of beloved revolutionary Che, murdered by the CIA in Bolivia in 1967. Even in 2017, Che still represents the relentless struggle against U.S. imperialism, revolutionary optimism, unflinching Marxist analysis, and the firm commitment of struggle until victory. Delegates will speak about their experience and answer questions about Cuba. The meeting will take up: - How is it that Cuba can protect its people from devastating hurricanes while Puerto Rico becomes devastated? Is it that storms hit Puerto Rico harder or is that the real storm is imperialist domination of the Caribbean? - How can young activists learn more about the legacy of Che as well as Fidel to arm themselves in the fight against capitalism? - Several of the delegates to Cuba are Black Lives Matter activists. What is Cuba’s history on racism as well as on LGBTQ issues? - What does Che’s legacy mean for Cuba and the world today? - Why is it said that Puerto Rico and Cuba are two wings of the same bird and how can we show our solidarity with Puerto Rico at this difficult moment? Dinner available at 5:00 pm for a small donation. Program starts at 6:00 pm. For more info: 212.627.2994
