This was the first day of my trip to Kazakhstan with my mom. Our flight landed in Almaty around 10 p.m. last night. A small tip for anyone visiting is to use ride hailing apps to get around. Airport taxis tend to charge rather unfair prices.
Our first stop of the day was Zenkov Cathedral. The cathedral is absolutely beautiful inside, although unfortunately I did not take any photos. Nearby there is also the Military History Museum Almaty, which commemorates heroes of the Second World War.
After that, we walked to Green Bazaar to buy some dried fruits, nuts, and local snacks. From there we continued to Arbat Street. Personally, I did not enjoy it very much since most of the shops were selling phone accessories and there were quite a few cafés. We just bought some drinks and small snacks before calling a car through Yandex Go to go to Kok-Tobe Hill.
The car drove all the way up to the top of the hill. I had read reviews suggesting that visitors should take the cable car up, but since I pinned Kok-Tobe Hill directly on the map, I did not realize that cars could actually drive all the way to the summit.
When we arrived, my mom and I were still looking around for the cable car. Eventually we saw a group of people walking toward the viewpoint, so we simply followed them, slightly confused but curious.
After spending some time enjoying the view, we called a car back to the hotel, ending the first day of the trip in a relaxed way.
